Legend of Mana can be incredibly cryptic in how its gameplay mechanics work, leaving you in the dark on a variety of topics. As such, we’re not surprised you’re unclear on how to learn Abilities and Special Techniques in Legend of Mana and are looking for some help.
Fortunately for you, we’ve got all the answers you’re looking for. Below you’ll find info on how these new moves are unlocked, the best ways to unlock them quickly, and more.
How to Learn Abilities in Legend of Mana
Let’s start with how to learn and unlock Abilities in Legend of Mana.
These are the movement skills your character can use which allow them to do things like dodge roll, block, and jump. You can unlock new ones by having certain abilities equipped in battle, and using them a certain amount. For example: Having the Defend ability equipped and using it in enough battles will allow you to unlock the Counterattack ability. Grapple, meanwhile, can only be unlocked after you use both Defend and Push a certain amount of times in battle.
It’s a little up in the air how many battles you’ll need to complete with each ability equipped. Given how fast battles can be completed though, it shouldn’t take more than a dozen minutes or so of grinding to unlock each new ability tied to one you already have.
How to Learn Special Techniques
Special Techniques, meanwhile, require that you fulfill a slightly different set of conditions.
Each weapon type has different Special Techniques to learn in Legend of Mana. Unlocking them will require you to have a specific weapon type equipped – which you’ll then need to win enough battles with – and to use certain Abilities a set amount of times.
Case in point: The Cutting Bambo technique which can be used with One-Handed Swords can only be unlocked after using One-Handed Swords enough and using the Jump technique enough times in battle.
Again, the game can be unclear on how many times you’ll need to use said abilities in battle, but it should only take about a dozen minutes of grinding to unlock each technique. Mix and match your weapon of choice with the use of each Ability in battle, and before long you should have a full slate of Techniques to choose from.
Hopefully this cleared up how to learn Abilities and Special Techniques in Legend of Mana. For more on the game, check out our full review of the recent remaster.
