Getting Import Bonuses in Mass Effect 2

If you’re playing the original versions of Mass Effect 1 and 2, you’ll need to make sure that you’re playing both games on the same platform so that your save files can be read and transferred over.

But if you’re playing via Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the save data will be transferred automatically whenever you load up Mass Effect 2 as long as you don’t delete it on your platform. It’s as simple as that. When you start a new game, you can choose to either import your character or start completely fresh.

What the Bonuses Are

It’s definitely worth importing your save from the previous game, as the choices you’ve made will have some impact in Mass Effect 2. In addition to that, you can also get a nice boost and headstart in the game, though it won’t be anything too game-breaking.

Here’s what carries over with your save from the first game:

  • Up to 190 Renegade or Paragon points.
  • 1,000 XP, 20,000 credits, 2,500 of each resource if your character is level 49 or below.
  • 2,000 XP, 30,000 credits, 5,000 of each resource if your character is level 50-59.
  • 4,000 XP, 50,000 credits, 10,000 of each resource if your character is level 60.
  • 100,000 credits if you got the Rich achievement in Mass Effect 1.

You can also get the full amount of credits you had at the end of the first Mass Effect after receiving the Normandy SR-2, with the maximum amount possible being 9,999,999 credits.

If you’re starting new game plus after having completed Mass Effect 2, you’ll also start with 200,000 credits and 50,000 of each resource.

Finally, it’s important to note that if you’re importing a character, you cannot change Shepard’s background, gender, and career history. However, you can change their appearance and class.

That’s all you need to know about how to get import bonuses and what they are in Mass Effect 2. Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
