Being that Marvel’s Avengers is an action adventure title at heart, you wouldn’t be blamed for thinking it features a block mechanic to go along with its attacks, dodges and special abilities. It can be tricky figuring out just how to trigger it though, so we’re here to help with a guide on how to block in Avengers Game.
How to Block in Avengers Game
To cut right to the chase, you can’t block as every character in Marvel’s Avengers.
Instead, you can only guard against attacks as characters who have a means to do so, like Captain America with his shield. Every other character will instead need to use dodges and repositioning to avoid being damaged by enemies.
While playing as a character like Captain America though, all you need to do to block is press and hold down R2 on PlayStation 4 or RT on the Xbox One. Doing so will trigger and maintain his guard ability, which will continually absorb any damage that comes at him from the direction he’s blocking toward.
When You Should Block
With that said, there are situations in Marvel’s Avengers where it’s better to block than others.
If you’re taking fire from a group of enemies’ ranged attacks, then blocking is the way to go. It can help you intercept said fire while moving in closer to them, eventually letting you get close enough to unleash some devestating combos and abilities.
On the other hand, if you’re up against a nimble enemy that constantly tries to close in on you, it’s advisable to stick to dodging and attacking instead. These enemies are frustratingly good at getting to your blindspot, and will make a block meaningless almost as soon as you put it up.
