To save your game at any time during The Last of Us 2, simply press the Options button on your controller and select the ‘Save’ option. As long as you’re not in the middle of a cutscene or a scripted section of gameplay, you should be able to save your progress and back out of the game.

Does The Last Of Us 2 Have Auto-Save?

Yes, The Last of Us 2 does have an auto-save system that kicks in fairly regularly. From our experience, it makes checkpoints before and after most new areas or after the intense combat scenarios in the game.

You’ll know that the game is auto-saving when an icon appears in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

Are There Multiple Save Slots?

Yes, The Last of Us 2 has 20 manual save slots so you can save your progress at different points throughout the story and return to them at any point.

We’d suggest using at least two, so you can return to any branching points you come across in the game that allows you to see all possible cutscenes and story segments. If you don’t just make sure to search your surroundings thoroughly so no stone goes unturned.
