Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Best Weapons for Every Character

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Final Fantasy 7 Remake doesn’t give you access to a whole ton of weapons, but each one that you do get can change your play style in a meaningful way. In this article, we’ve picked out what we think are the best weapons for every character in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Cloud

For Cloud, we have to go with the Twin Stinger. Once fully upgraded, its physical and magic attack stats sit at a comfortable 73 each, which isn’t the greatest, and certainly not quite as powerful as the iconic Buster Sword. However, the Twin Stinger’s balanced stats make it the most versatile weapon you can equip on Cloud.

Decent, balanced stats aren’t the only thing this weapon has to offer, though. If you take a look at its upgrade tree, you’ll also notice that it offers a lot of max MP nodes, greatly increasing your MP pool, along with increased magic and elemental damage. With the Twin Stinger, Cloud arguably becomes one of the best characters to put your Elemental Materia on because of the increased damage output.

And even beyond that, the Twin Stinger also offers a lot of increased MP regeneration nodes, letting you recover MP quicker in combat. It’s balanced and allows you to conserve MP while dealing strong magical damage, making it the best weapon for Cloud, especially on Hard Mode.

Tifa

Tifa has the most weapons available to her in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and picking just one for her is difficult. She’s the most versatile character in the game as well, so choosing her best weapon will largely depend on your play style.

For us, we prioritized balance once again for Tifa, as we needed her to be able to do pretty much anything in Hard Mode. For that, we went with the Sonic Strikers, which offers you six Materia slots, all in linked pairs. While the stats on this thing aren’t the highest, they ensure that Tifa becomes a reliable party member who can Pressure effectively with both physical and magical attacks, and provide healing with a fairly large MP pool and good MP regeneration.

Another good weapon for consideration is the Feathered Gloves, which has higher stats than the Sonic Strikers, and focuses on her speed and damage. However, it only comes with four Materia slots, and Tifa’s MP pool gets crippled quite a bit.

The Feathered Gloves are a good pick if you want Tifa to focus on just dealing damage with no healing responsibilities, but it’s important to note that you won’t always have Aerith in your party to take those on. Whenever you’re left with just Cloud, Tifa, and Barret, and if you’re playing on Hard Mode, you’ll want at least two party members capable of proper healing, and Cloud and Tifa are the best candidates for that.

Barret

Probably the easiest character to pick out the best weapon for in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, you can’t go wrong with the Big Bertha. It comes with five Materia slots, with two linked pairs, and has the second highest physical damage stat among all of Barret’s weapons, and a decent magic stat as well.

Barret’s MP pool won’t benefit very much from Big Bertha, but he does get a ton of max HP upgrade nodes in this one, making him an indestructible tank. Stack on his defense upgrade nodes, learn the Lifesaver ability, and put the Provoke Materia on him, and you’ll have a reliable tank for the entire game who can also put out good damage.

Big Bertha also comes packed with the Maximum Fury ability, which is great for building up Stagger, or just dealing raw damage. While Barret won’t have that much MP to work with, the extra Materia slots on Big Bertha afford you the headroom to put a Revival or Healing Materia on him so that he can pull off an emergency Raise or Cure if needed.

Aerith

For Aerith, both the Mythril Rod and Reinforced Staff are excellent picks for her, though we’d maybe give the edge to the Reinforced Staff for the two extra Materia slots and only slightly reduced magical attack stat.

The Mythril Rod produces the highest raw magical damage output, which is great if you want to build Aerith as a magical powerhouse, but we felt that the balance provided by the Reinforced Staff was more valuable. The Staff’s 107 magical attack stat is nothing to scoff at either, and with six Materia slots, you can give Aerith a lot of versatility. You can definitely make up for the lost damage by using Arcane Ward to let Aerith cast spells twice for the one-time MP cost.

What worked for us was using the Mythril Rod until we learned Ray of Judgment, then swapping over to the Reinforced Staff. The Staff comes with the ATB Ward ability, which lets your allies regain some of their ATB charge just by standing in it.

And those are our picks for the best weapons for every character in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Be sure to search for Twinfinite or check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
