Can Borderlands 3 Be Played Offline? Answered

To get right to the point, yes, Borderlands 3 can technically be played offline under the right circumstances.

From playing through missions tied to the main story to completing side missions and crew challenges, everything tied to the main game is 100 percent playable even if you don’t have an internet connection.

This means that if you’d rather sign out and turn off your internet to play in solitude without messages, friend requests and other distractions, you’re perfectly free to do so.

How to Play Borderlands 3 Offline

However, there are certain requirements and restrictions to be aware of when trying to do this. For starters, this only applies to those with a physical copy of the game. Those with a digital copy may have trouble accessing the game’s files while offline, particularly if they’re playing on Xbox One.

Likewise, the game can get wonky if you’ve been playing with friends online and try to start playing offline from a save where you were playing online.

As such, you’ll want to be playing from a physical copy and make sure the game registered you as playing solo or local co-op the last time it saved before trying to play offline.

Is Playing Offline Worth It?

As for whether or not you should play offline, it varies based on what you’re looking for.

If, as mentioned above, you’re looking to play the game without distractions, than playing offline definitely has its perks.

You’re far less likely to be interrupted at key story points, and you won’t have to worry about the game crashing or booting you out due to an internet connection failure.

However, you’re also limited to the main game and local modes without an internet connection. That means you can’t access some of the game’s other features like the Proving Grounds, online multiplayer and so on.

Carefully consider what you want out of your time with Borderlands 3, and then decide whether or not you want to play the game without being online.

Hopefully this cleared up whether you can play Borderlands 3 offline or not. For more on the game, check out our guide on how to get the Golden Touch, or check out our wiki guide.
