Obtaining a Nether Star in Minecraft is somewhat odd when compared to the way you usually obtain things in the game. You’re not going to be mining through mountains or digging through dunes. Instead, you’re going to create your own opportunity to get one by building a Wither. Here’s how to get a Nether Star in Minecraft.
Here’s How to Get a Nether Star in Minecraft
To get a Nether Star, you’re going to need to create a boss that you will then need to kill. There’s a lot to learn here so let’s break it down by first going over what exactly they can do for you in the first place.
What a Nether Star Is
A Nether Star is a rare material that is used exclusively for creating beacons. Once built using one Nether Star, some glass and some Obsidian, your beacon will act as a light source in the world that will always be visible to you.
It also serves to provide status effects like enhanced healing to you and other players when you are in range of the beacon’s effects.
To get one, you’re going to need to create a Wither boss. Let’s talk about what a Wither is.
What a Wither Is
Withers are undead boss mobs that shoot explosive skulls at you. It’s the only player-made hostile mob in the game and it can be spawned by placing four blocks of soul sand in a t-shape with three wither skeleton skulls atop this t-shape.
To spawn it, the last block placed must be one of the skeleton skulls. When you successfully summon a Wither, it will immediately attempt to attack you.
Now that you know what a Wither is and how to create one, it’s time to get a Nether Star.
How to Get a Nether Star
With a Wither spawned, attack it. When you attack it, it will start to turn pinkish-red. Continue to attack the Wither until it dies. When it dies, it will drop a Nether Star.
Be sure to pick it up quickly because this drop disappears quicker than most items in the game.
