Out with the old and in with the old. Groudon is returning to raids in Pokemon GO after a long hiatus. If you missed the legendary Ground-type Pokemon last time around, then it’s your lucky week. Here’s everything you need to know about Groudon’s raid, stats, and moveset.
How to Get Groudon in Pokemon GO
Groudon is one chunky Ground-type Pokemon. It’s only going to appear in level-five raids, so make sure you have a team of solid raiders. At just over 54 thousand CP, four (maybe three) trainers with high-level counters should be just enough to take down the Continent Pokemon. Anything more than that will be a comparatively comfortable battle.
It’s worth noting that this legendary can’t be fought at any random time. Currently, this legendary Pokemon will only be available in Pokemon GO from June 27 to July 10, though it will likely return after this date for a limited time, as this was not the first time this legendary has appeared in the game.
Suggested Attackers and Movesets for Raiding
Groudon’s Ground typing makes it especially susceptible to Water attackers. Be careful though; Solar Beam will decimate your Water-type Pokemon. Ice and Grass attackers are good too, but they should look out for its Fire Blast. It’s not every day you see a raid boss that can cover all its weaknesses this well, so be careful out there.Â
Here are your best Pokemon and moves that will help in taking out Groudon:Â
- Mamoswine – Powder Snow/AvalancheÂ
- Mewtwo – Confusion/Ice BeamÂ
- Weavile – Ice Shard/AvalancheÂ
- Palkia – Dragon Tail/Hydro PumpÂ
- Kyogre – Waterfall/Hydro PumpÂ
- Salamence – Dragon Tail/Hydro PumpÂ
- Sharpeedo – Waterfall/Hydro PumpÂ
- Gyarados – Waterfall/Hydro PumpÂ
- Roserade – Razor Leaf/Solar BeamÂ
- Sceptile – Bullet Seed/Frenzy plantÂ
- Vaporeon – Water Gun/Hydro PumpÂ
- Leafeon – Razor Leaf/ Solar Beam or Energy Ball
- Glaceon – Ice Shard / Avalanche
- Exeggutor (Alolan or Kantonian) – Bullet Seed/ Solar Beam
- Groudon – Dragon Tail/Solar BeamÂ
Groudon’s Strengths in Pokemon GO
This legendary is undoubtedly the strongest Ground attacker in the game. This makes him a no-brainer for any raids against Steel, Fire, Rock, Poison, or Electric Pokemon. Â
It’s a good idea to stock up since two of the major legendary dragons (Reshiram and Zekrom) coming in the next generation of Pokemon releases are weak to Ground-type moves. Also, Groudon is a ridiculously strong attacker in general.Â
Groudon’s MovesetÂ
There’s not too much to talk about with Groudon’s fast moves. Dragon Tail is good for covering against Dragon-types with Hydro Pump. Otherwise, its fast moveset is basic. Â
These are Groudon’s fast attacks:Â
- Mud Shot (Ground, 5)Â
- Dragon Tail (Dragon, 15)Â
This is where Groudon’s moveset gets impressive. It has three charge moves with different types. These powerful moves cover its weaknesses (Fire Blast, Solar Beam) or gain a same type attack bonus thanks to its Ground-typing (Earthquake). Â
You can even use Groudon against the legendary itself as long as yours has Solar Beam. Oddly enough, this makes the big red Pokemon one of the best Grass attackers in the game.Â
These are Groudon’s charge attacks:Â
- Earthquake (Ground, 120)Â
- Fire Blast (Fire, 140)Â
- Solar Beam (Grass, 180)Â
Groudon’s Stats in Pokemon GO
Groudon is one strong beast. Its attack is in the top two percent of all Pokemon. Even if you’re not using super effective moves, this massive creature is overwhelmingly strong. That makes Groudon a threat against any type of Pokemon that doesn’t resist Ground attacks.Â
This big red monster has a decent amount of HP, but its defense stat gives it respectable staying power.
Here are Groudon’s base stats:
- HP – 205Â
- Attack – 270Â
- Defense – 228
That’s all there is to Groudon’s raid, stats, and movesets. Also, if you haven’t taken advantage of the current Meltan event check out this article for more details.
