Fallout 76: How to Increase AP

How to Increase AP in Fallout 76

Recommended Videos

Fallout 76 is a lot different this time around as Bethesda takes it in a new direction. However, there’s still a lot that fans of the series will remember and feel familiar with. AP being an important part of the game still rings true. As such, let’s go over how to increase AP in Fallout 76.

First, let’s have a refresher on what exactly AP effects. It’s what you’ll use up when you sprint, which is definitely going to happen often. This is because no one wants to walk all over the place, ya know? Especially not with the Scorched shooting at your bum.

Secondly, it affects your VATS. Which, this time around has changed quite a bit, but is still very useful for players that find it hard to aim and shoot on the fly.

SPECIAL Points & Perk Cards

One of the primary ways of increasing your AP is through the SPECIAL skill points and perk cards. You’re going to want to place points whenever you level up into Endurance and Agility.

Agility affects how big your AP meter is overall. That is to say, how many points you actually have to spend up on things like sprinting and VATS. Meanwhile, Endurance will affect how much AP you waste from sprinting, and its perk cards help out with wasting less during VATS.

Here are some perk cards that will help you out with your quest to nab more of these action points:

  • Lone Wanderer: When you’re alone (not in a party), you regenerate AP faster.
  • Action Boy/Girl: Action points during VATS are wasted less.
  • Marathoner: Sprinting consumes less action points.

Of course, leveling each of these up will definitely help you increase the effects of each of them. To find out more about perks, we’ve got a lot of guides for you: All Perk Cards, How to Equip Perk Cards, How to Upgrade Perk Cards.

Heal Up

Sometimes in Fallout 76 when you’re damaged enough, you’re going to be receiving damage directly to limbs. This will lead to them being broken, which will, in turn, cost you a lot more AP than usual.

Jumping becomes a pain, sprinting becomes a pain, everything’s a pain. So definitely heal up by either resting it out on a bed, eating a lot of nutritious food that increases your HP, or using a stimpack.

Stimpacks are the best option, just for your information.

Boosted Items

Just like other abilities and skills in the game, you can also boost your AP using different items or chemicals. Mutations also help out with this! You’re going to want to keep an eye out for any foods or medicine that will give you that oomph to your AP.

Always keep in mind of course that these are only temporary. But nonetheless, when you need that boost for either sprinting out of a jam or using a lot of VATS, you’re going to want to pop that item.

That does it for how to increase your AP in Fallout 76! If you’re looking for more help with the game, though, you might want to take a look at our Fallout 76 guide wiki. It’s jam-packed with tips, tricks, how to guides, cheats, and more!
