 The Big Games

games with gold, predictions

It’s almost that time of the month when Microsoft announces what free games will be included on its Games with Gold program for November 2018.

Usually a couple larger titles from AAA studios headline the list, and one likely candidate is Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 from PopCap Games and published by Electronic Arts. Plants vs. Zombies is a fun and colorful series that has been featured on Games with Gold in the past when Plants vs. Zombies was offered on the program in July 2015.

It’s only a matter of time before a follow-up entry in the series if included, and if it’s not Garden Warfare 2 then expect its predecessor Garden Warfare.

Our other prediction for a larger game is LEGO Marvel’s Avengers for several reasons. Firstly, LEGO games are a very common inclusion on Games with Gold lists including:

  • LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga in May 2017.
  • LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game in July 2017.
  • LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues in June 2018.
  • And LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars in September 2018.

Secondly, LEGO Marvel’s Avengers is available on numerous platforms including PS4, PS3, PS Vita, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, 3DS, Wii U, and PC. When a title is offered on numerous platforms then there is less of a economic risk for Microsoft to offer for free on its platforms. Essentially, it’s a safer bet and is likely a big part of why Microsoft has gone with quite a few LEGO games in the past.

The Indie Offering

bastion

As for a possible indie inclusion, Bastion from Supergiant Games and published by Warner Bros would be a welcomed and likely contender for a few reasons.

Firstly, Bastion is available on both Xbox One and Xbox 360. Microsoft loves to include titles, especially indie titles, that are available on both platforms so they can please multiple console owners at once.

Secondly, Bastion has been offered on Microsoft platforms in promotional manner in the past when owners of the Xbox 360 copy could receive a free copy on Xbox One if they downloaded it between Dec 12 2016 and Jan 1 2017. Due to this it’s clear Supergiant Games has worked with Microsoft in the past for promotional marketing strategies for Bastion, so it’s not a far reach to see the developer attempt to garner further attention to Bastion yet again by offering it on Games with Gold.

Make sure to check back in the next week or two to see which games made the official Games with Gold list for November 2018.
