Spider-Man for the PS4 is every Spidey fans dream. It’s a fantastic game where you’ll be taking down baddies, web-slinging all over, and laughing to the little references the game wants to give nods to. Here are some of our tips and tricks for first time players of Spider-Man on the PS4.
Spider-Man PS4 Tips & Tricks for Beginners
Always Keep an Eye on Your Health
One of the first things you absolutely have to learn in Spider-Man PS4 is that if you don’t pay close attention to your health gauge, you could quickly find yourself staring at a loading screen waiting for poor ol’ Spidey to respawn. Just because Spider-Man is a superhero, doesn’t mean he has regenerative health… though he kinda does.
In order to heal in Spider-Man PS4, you’ll need to build your focus gauge just under your health bar, and then press down on the d-pad to use it. Doing so restores a chunk of health, and upgrades later in the game can help to extend your focus gauge in order to restore more at a time.
If you’re ever finding yourself getting wailed on by a swarm of enemies that have surrounded you, the best thing you can do is jump and press R2 to web your way to freedom. Be sure to keep an eye on the dodge indicator around Spidey’s head to avoid being killed while you’re escaping. Each dodge you successfully pull off will grant a bit of focus, which you can spam over and over to get yourself back to a safe state.

Master the Dodge
While we’re on the topic of watching your health bar, mastering the dodge is one of the absolute first things you need to master, and following that, you’ll want to get the Perfect Dodge skill as soon as possible. Perfect Dodge will turn that ‘dodge indicator’ that appears around Spidey’s head blue for a brief moment. Dodge at this point, and Spider-Man will pull off a special animated dodge, stun your enemy, and also generate a good chunk of focus.
By mastering the dodge ability in Spider-Man PS4 and combining it with the Perfect Dodge ability, you can constantly stun enemies, generate focus for finishers or healing, and avoid any incoming damage, too. Now you’re fighting like a superhero!

Don’t Fast Travel and Grab As You Go
Yes, yes, Spider-Man PS4 has a fast travel option just like every other open world game pretty much does right now. But that doesn’t mean that you should use it. Although… there is a trophy for it.
Still! While you’re progressing through the game and leveling up, avoid fast traveling. Go out there and see Manhattan. Collect all of the backpacks, take down some hideouts, complete some side missions. Any icon you see on your way to the next one, just check it out.
By picking side content off as you go, you’ll often find that you have all of the crafting ingredients you need for anything that you eventually unlock, such as suits, gadgets, gadget upgrades and so on. Plus, thanks to the game’s traversal, it pretty much makes doing anything fun, so you might as well!

Stealth Is Sometimes the Best Option
It’s incredibly tempting to see a horde of 20 enemies, drop into the middle of ’em, and start thinning out their ranks with some well-timed web attacks. However, sometimes, going in all… webs blazing isn’t the right option. Sometimes, you’re better off using Spider-Man’s climbing skills and agile nature to sneak up on your enemies and catch them off-guard.
By going the stealth route, you’ve got a good chance that you can go around, picking off enemies without being detected by their comrades. That means that when, or if, you do eventually get spotted, there are considerably fewer enemies surrounding you all trying to get the finishing blow. There are a number of different skills you can unlock in Spider-Man PS4, some of which definitely work best for those wanting to play a stealthy route, so be sure to make use of these to make sneaky takedowns even easier.

Prioritize Targets
Spider-Man PS4 slowly but surely introduces you to different enemy types as you progress through its story. Staring with normal goons, then shielded enemies, heavy enemies, and so on, knowing which ones are going to cause you most trouble in combat in Spider-Man PS4 goes a long way to emerging victorious in its later stages.
Just because the unarmed, standard goons are right in front of you in a crowd of 20, doesn’t mean they should be your focus. Instead, look for any firing projectiles or weapons at you, and either disarm them, or take them out of the fight first. As soon as you’ve just got to focus on incoming melee attacks, combat becomes far more manageable.
Similarly, heavy enemies have a rather annoying habit of spamming their windmill punches, which when they knock you down, make it difficult to get off the ground before the next one comes in. Be sure to keep your distance from certain enemies, and to always think about how you need to beat an enemy, rather than button mashing and hoping for the best.

Remember to Use Your Suit Power
While some of you may have completely forgotten that your suit power was a thing in Spider-Man PS4, it’s certainly something that can come in handy if you remember to use it.
Problem is, in the heat of battle, it’s very easy to forget, especially when some of the earlier suit powers aren’t all that great. However, during the later stages, and once you’ve unlocked more suit powers by crafting suits, you’ll most likely find a suit power that works for you.
For example, the Iron Spider suit has an extremely powerful suit power that enables you to use the metal arms/legs on the suit as additional melee weapons, upping your melee damage considerably. This can make thinning out enemy packs an absolute breeze in Spider-Man PS4. So be sure to change your suit power to one that suits you, and then to actually use it in battle!
