How to Find and Enter Secret Rooms in Darkest Dungeon

Recommended Videos

Don’t let the 2D design and linear map of Darkest Dungeon fool you into thinking there aren’t plenty of secrets to discover along the way. Although things look fairly rudimentary, you can actually deploy scouts to uncover secret rooms, and these are often full of useful treasure. Here’s how to find and enter those secret rooms.

First, you’ll need to scout the rooms before you can actually discover them. Scouting is a passive skill that each hero possesses, though there is no actual chance value. Instead, each hero has a 25% chance of scouting upon entering a new room in Darkest Dungeon. There are, however, ways to enhance how frequently scouting occurs via the use of trinkets. The Scouting Whistle and Ancestor’s Map are an example of these. Scouting events are also affected by Light, so using torches will also help you out. There are Quirks that also boost your Scout, as well as some camping skills. Your overall Scout percentage is determined by these additional factors, added to the 25% base Scout chance.

As you move along each corridor (the small dark grey squares that connect each room on the map) in Darkest Dungeon, you’ll eventually happen across a secret room. These are represented by a golden star on the map. Access it as you would any other room (clicking the background and pressing up).

All secret rooms in Darkest Dungeon contain the unique curio, the Ancient Artifact. This will always drop a small amount of loot, but the amount is significantly increased if you have a Skeleton key in your possession. Remember that, as with any item that provides loot, the amount you’ll receive is increased when opening it at a zero light level.

That’s all you need to know about how to find and enter secret rooms in Darkest Dungeon. For more useful tips and guides on the game, be sure to search for Twinfinite.
