Crazy Big 3 E3 Announcements

All eyes will be on the big three this year as we turn a corner into the latter part of this generation. For the first time since the end of the previous console generation, rumors of a changing landscape are starting to percolate.

Let’s look at what each of the major current-gen console manufacturers could announce at E3 that, while probably unlikely, would change everything if they happened. Note: Yes we could come up with even crazier announcements than what we have here, but we want to keep this at least somewhat in the realm of possibility.

Let’s start with Microsoft. This rumor goes back to January and states that Microsoft, which is a company that makes more than just video games and has a lot of money they could spend if they wanted to, could be in the market to make a major gaming related acquisition.

Names as insane as Valve or EA were being tossed around as companies that could be bought out. If either one of those two companies were acquired by Microsoft, or something at that kind of level, it would be an absolute bonanza. The way we view the balance of power of the big three would need to be completely thrown out and it would mark the start of a new era.

Imagine popular games like Madden only being available on the Xbox One, or an unannounced console if that’s too short notice. Or if Microsoft were to go the route of buying Valve, they would be able to marry PC gamers that live and die by Steam with their home console and make them all live under one roof. It would open the door for console and PC gamers to be integrated in ways that may not have been possible before.

Nintendo Has a More Powerful Version of the Switch Ready to Go and Has AAA, Third-Party Publishers Lined Up to Support It

Crazy Big 3 E3 Announcements

If there’s one thing holding the Nintendo Switch back from total world dominance, it is the fact that they are still being left out of major AAA multi-platform releases. As far as we know, there’s no Switch version of games like Anthem, The Division 2, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider on the way.

The Switch is well on its way to having a sizable market share. If they wanted to take their efforts this generation to the next level, they could do it by revealing that there is a new, more powerful version of the Switch on the way that can handle more demanding AAA games.

Not only that, if Nintendo really wanted to dunk on everyone, they would trot a major developer or publisher, like say, Rockstar, out onto the stage to reveal that they are on board and will be delivering something like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Grand Theft Auto V, to launch alongside this new version of the Switch.

If that happens, whether it’s this year or in a future presentation, it would certainly change the current landscape, and force Microsoft and Sony to reevaluate their future hardware.

Sony Is Lying and They Do Have Something to Say About the PlayStation 5

Crazy Big 3 E3 Announcements

This is totally fake.

Sony has already said that the PS5 won’t be at E3. But, we have been lied to by game developers and publishers before. It doesn’t even have to be a full reveal. If Sony says anything about the future of the PlayStation brand beyond the PS4, it would send fans into a frenzy.

Sony has dominated the current generation with the PlayStation 4. The Switch is gaining ground quickly, sure, but it’s still just getting its feet wet and Microsoft just recently released the Xbox One X in hopes to attract gamers interested in the best looking games possible on home consoles. If Sony were to get the jump on capturing gamers’ imaginations on the next generation of consoles, it could put a wrench into both Microsoft and Nintendo’s current and future plans.

Fans that are currently happy with the PlayStation 4 may reconsider purchasing an alternate console if a PlayStation 5 is looming on the horizon. It would also force Microsoft and Nintendo’s hand. They would need to do something dramatic, because just going with the current status quo, and letting Sony dictate the terms of the next generation, would not be ideal for those two to say the least.
