XBOX GAMES WITH GOLD FREE GAMES PREDICTIONS FOR JUNE 2018

batman, telltale, mad max, xbox, games with gold

Every month, Microsoft uses its Games with Gold program to offer some free games to players who subscribe to its Xbox Live Gold membership. For the most recent month of May 2018, those free games included:

  • Super Mega Baseball 2 (May 1-31)
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (May 16-June 15) *our guess back in March
  • Streets of Rage (May 1-15)
  • Vanquish (May 16-31)

The way it usually works is a couple larger and more well-known titles headline the list for the month, with one or even two indies sprinkled in as well. For the next month of June 2018, we predict Mad Max from Avalanche Studios would be a great inclusion.

Firstly, Mad Max has already been offered for free on PS Plus for April 2018. Since we are seeing the huge title Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain come to Xbox Games with Gold after already coming to PS Plus in October 2017 (and being highly praised for it) it would seem like a fair assumption that Microsoft is taking steps to ensure its free games service stacks up well against its competitors. Secondly, Mad Max has been offered at sale prices on and off since its release in 2015, currently resting at just $10 or free with the Xbox Game Pass for another week at the time of writing.

Another worthy candidate for June is the first season of Batman: The Telltale Series. Besides the fact that the Batman Telltale series has already been offered on PS Plus in January 2018 in regards to our earlier argument, Microsoft also just loves including Telltale games on their Games with Gold lists. Past inclusions include The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season in October 2015, The Wolf Among Us in April 2016, Tales from the Borderlands in November 2017, and Back to the Future: The Game in December 2017. It’s surprising the Batman series hasn’t been offered yet, so expect it sometime soon if not next month.

Check out page two where we also take a stab at guessing what indie game could be making the Games with Gold list for June 2018.

INDIE

XBOX GAMES WITH GOLD FREE GAMES PREDICTIONS FOR JUNE 2018

After a few larger games, at least one indie makes it onto the monthly Games with Gold list as well. Our prediction for June 2018 is Candleman from Spotlightor Interactive.

Originally releasing in 2017, in Candleman you control a little candle who can only burn for 10 seconds at a time as you try and find your way out of the darkness. Puzzles you encounter will have you manipulating the world with light and shadow, so you must choose wisely when to use your precious 10 seconds of light in each level.

Candleman came first to Xbox One in January 2017, and released a year later for PC in January 2018. Microsoft is familiar with including indie titles on its Xbox Games with Gold list that are not available on the PS4 to promote exclusively. Therefore, charming indie Candleman would be a definite possible addition to Games with Gold, if not in June then sometime soon.

Make sure to check back in a week or so when Microsoft reveals the official Games with Gold list of June 2018.
