Developed by NIS, Penny-Punching Princess presents a fun twist on the regular RPG formula we’ve grown so used to. The game takes place in a world where money talks, and you can either punch your way out of things or try to bribe your enemies. The titular princess is on a quest of revenge against all of the corrupt money-lenders in the world, and you’ll make your way through levels beating up your foes in some sweet, brawler, beat-em-up action.

Money can be spent to unlock new locations that house important goodies, or you can spend them to upgrade your equipment and other abilities in between levels. The pixelated graphical style is gorgeous as well, and the mission structure makes it a good title to bring around with you on your Switch.

The Bunker (April 9)

The Bunker is one of the more interesting titles to hit the Nintendo Switch this month. Unlike most point-and-click adventure games you may have played, The Bunker features full, live-action FMV cutscenes starring Adam Brown from The Hobbit and Sarah Greene from the Penny Dreadful television series.

The Bunker is a psychological horror game where you follow the story of a man named John, who is the last remaining survivor in a nuclear bunker. One day, he wakes up to an alarm going off, and his mind starts to self-destruct as he explores the area and is forced to confront some repressed memories.

Nintendo Labo (April 20)

Alright, so we might be cheating a little bit with this one. But considering that Nintendo doesn’t really have a major headlining title for the Switch this month, the Labo kits are the next best thing to look out for. Releasing on April 20, the Labo robot and variety kits are essentially pieces of cardboard that you can cut out and use to interact with your Switch console in innovative ways.

We don’t know all that much about Labo itself just yet, but presumably, you’ll be able to attach your Joy-Cons (or the Switch console itself, in some cases) to the cardboard and play your games that way. From what we’ve seen of the released footage so far, the cardboard is meant to provide an added layer of immersion to the way you play your games, like twisting a piece of cardboard a certain way while playing a fishing game. The Labo kits can also be decorated with provided stickers.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole (April 24)

If none of this month’s offerings really appeal to you, consider picking up South Park: The Fractured But Whole instead. The Ubisoft-developed RPG was released towards the tail-end of 2017, and we really enjoyed our time with it.

The game takes us back to the world we know and love from the TV series, and allows players to create their own custom characters to interact with fan-favorite characters like Kenny and Cartman. This time around, the kids are dressing up as superheroes to save their town. The combat system has also been revamped, and the tactical turn-based system was pretty well thought out, with tons of unique character moves and abilities to play around with.

It’s a fairly meaty RPG experience as well, and if you’re a fan of South Park’s brand of humor, this is a good one to keep an eye out for.

Gal*Gun 2 (April 24)

Gal*Gun 2 is an on-rails shooter where you play a teenage boy in school trying to woo the girl of your dreams while keeping a few demon forces at bay. The game makes use of the Switch’s motion controls as well, so you should have a more fluid experience when trying to shoot your targets in handheld mode.

Gal*Gun 2 tasks players with ridding the school of demons, while also taking on quests from your favorite girl NPCs located around the school. With the help of Risu the angel, you’ll actually have a shot at romance with the girl next door Chiru and your childhood sweetheart Nanako. It’s all very fanservice-y, but at least the game’s animations look pretty nice. It’s also a rather popular franchise among Japanese game fans, so this could be a fun game to keep on your radar if you’re itching for something to play this month.
