Is Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition Coming to Nintendo Switch?

Recommended Videos

It seems as though Final Fantasy XV has been rumored or hinted at in one way or another for quite some time now. Yet, with the release of Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition on Xbox One and PS4 tomorrow, many fans will be wondering if the complete collection of Noctis and the boys’ journey thus far will also be available on Nintendo Switch.

Unfortunately, at this moment in time, Square Enix has yet to announce that Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition (or any edition for that matter) is currently in development. Until this point, there’s not really a whole lot to go off. However, in the latter half of 2017, a number of comments were made regarding Final Fantasy XV making its way to the Nintendo Switch.

In August, Final Fantasy XV Directo Hajime Tabata hinted in both a Gamescom Square Enix stream and an IGN interview that Final Fantasy XV had “a chance” of showing up on Nintendo’s newest platform. “There is certainly a chance. It’s certainly not zero,” Tabata told IGN when asked about Final Fantasy XV coming to Nintendo Switch. “Obviously we’d have to think about what the meaning and what the significance of bringing this to Switch would be. You know, whether people would want to play it and whether it would be the right thing to do for our team.”

It’s far from confirmation, it does provide a little bit of hope that we could see at least some form of FFXV – if not the Royal Edition – make its way to the Nintendo Switch at some point in the future. However, it’s also worth noting that in an interview with Famitsu in September, Tabata did note that the team wasn’t actively trying to bring the title to the Nintendo Switch.

Though Tabata seems to be throwing out some mixed signals, hopefully, we’ll find out more about the possibility of a port soon. We’ll update this post as soon as we have more information.

Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition is available on PS4 and Xbox One on March 6.
