How to Change Your Appearance in Sonic Forces

The character creation feature has received mixed responses on social media ever since it was announced back in May. While some players were thrilled to create their own avatars, the Twitterverse couldn’t help but bring Coldsteel the Hedgeheg back from the depths of the Internet’s file cabinet of viral memes. Whether you like it or not, Sonic Forces will give you the task of creating your very own playable avatar that will join Sonic and the team as they prepare to lead the resistance against Doctor Eggman. You will even have the option of selecting what kind of animal species you’d like to be but keep in mind that you might not want to pick based solely on aesthetics here. Each animal has different perks that will certainly make a difference as you race through the game.

When you first create your avatar, you may be less than impressed with the customization options at your disposal. Outside of color shifting, there really isn’t much for you to do here. Don’t give up on the character customization just yet, though. Once you complete the second stage in Sonic Forces, you will always be able to access the avatar menu from the world map. The key on the bottom of the screen will let you know what button you can press to jump to the avatar screen or you can simply find the avatar location pin on the map itself and select it. Once you access this screen, you will be able to dive deeper into the customization as you unlock more goodies for your avatar. Just remember that you won’t be able to change your selection for what animal you’d like to be, so make sure you spend time considering what perks mean the most to you.

If you find that you aren’t thrilled about using the character perks you selected for a certain level, you can just take advantage of the Rental Avatar feature. This will let you snag someone else’s avatar so that you can swap between your avatar and that one at any point in the level.
