Batman: The Enemy Within – Episode 2 Story

At the start of the episode, our heroes are still coming to terms with the Riddler’s death, but there’s no time to tarry. Gordon receives a report of Riddler’s gang breaking into the GCPD arsenal, and Batman offers to stop them while the cops do the clean up work. Upon arriving at the arsenal, Batman frees a mechanic who’s being held hostage by the criminals, and he also meets Bane for the first time.

The fight against Bane and his goons goes well at first, until Bane gets extra jacked up with his venom dose. While Batman gets pinned down by him, the mechanic he saved earlier shows up to stab Bane in the back. However, it’s not enough, Batman receives a brutal beat down from Bane, and is left crushed under a ton of rubble. Players then have the choice of calling either Gordon or Waller for help. For our playthrough, we opted to go with Waller.

Batman is rescued by the Agency, but the mechanic didn’t make it out alive. Batman also speaks with one of the agents who tells him that Avesta is currently hospitalized, and he also advises him to stay on Waller’s good side for as long as possible.

Pinky Swear?

Batman: The Enemy Within – Episode 2 Story

Back at the Batcave, Alfred and Bruce try to make sense of what’s going on with Riddler’s gang. Bruce recalls that John had some connection with Riddler, and he decides to call to him for help and try to get him to introduce him to his friends. John responds to his text quickly, and the two decide to meet at a bar called the Stacked Deck.

Over at the bar, John is initially suspicious of Bruce because he declined his offer to meet his friends during the first episode. After convincing John that his intentions are pure, and fending off a thug who tries to attack him, the two exit the bar. Bruce also has the option to pinky swear that he’ll never hide anything from him. John promises to introduce Bruce to his friends, and also tells him that he’s in love with a woman.

As the two get into John’s car, we’re quickly introduced to Harley Quinn.

Dealing With Harley Quinn

Unlike John, Harley isn’t all that impressed by Bruce. After testing his reaction by pointing a gun to his head and threatening to shoot him, she asks John to go buy her a smoothie so she can have some alone time with Bruce. She states that she doesn’t trust him and that he’s going to have to work hard if he wants to get on her good side.

When John returns with the smoothie, the three of them head to Wayne Enterprises, where they order Bruce to steal the Phalanx Key from Lucius Fox’s lab and hand it to them. During the car ride, Harley offers to share the smoothie with Bruce, and players can choose to either accept or reject the offer. Accepting the offer will cause John to get jealous of Bruce.

Breaking Into Wayne Enterprises

Batman: The Enemy Within – Episode 2 Story

At Wayne Enterprises, Bruce signs in at the security desk and makes his way to the elevator. However, John and Harley follow behind him and knock the guard out before joining him in the elevator. At this point, Bruce has the option to either check if the guard is fine, or continue making his way to the lab. In our playthrough, we chose to head to the lab. This caused Harley to become a little more trusting of Bruce.

However, before they reach the lab, the trio runs into Regina, who is perplexed by Bruce’s choice of companions. Harley starts to threaten Regina physically, and Bruce has the option to either stop her or let her continue what she’s doing. When you stop her, Harley backs off immediately, and Regina leaves, but not before making another snarky remark about the two clowns. After that, Harley tries to flirt with Bruce again, and you can either reciprocate or reject her advances. Note that this will also affect John’s jealousy towards Bruce.

At the secret lab, Bruce scans the environments for a fingerprint of Lucius’ that they can use, and this allows him to open up the vault that houses the Phalanx Key. As he steps inside, however, he sees that Tiffany is in there as well. Before John and Harley enter, Bruce attempts to quiet her down as she demands answers. In our playthrough, we chose to admit to Tiffany that Lucius had been working with Batman when he was alive, and this answer seemed to satisfy her a little.

John enters the vault soon after, and Bruce manages to convince Tiffany to hand over the Phalanx Key so that they can get out of this quietly, without having to alert Harley. They also steal the EMP generator before leaving.

In the Hideout

Batman: The Enemy Within – Episode 2 Story

After the break-in, Batman is soon summoned by Gordon and Waller. When they meet up, Waller tells Gordon that he can leave now, and Batman can either agree with Waller, say that Gordon has the right to stay, or remain neutral. In our playthrough, we sided with Waller, and Gordon left angry at Batman.

Waller reveals that she had been tailing Bruce, and that’s how she knew about the break-in at Wayne Enterprises. She also informs Batman that she needs him to keep infiltrating the Riddler’s gang, find out what they’re up to, and then contact her when he’s able to get them out in the open where the Agency can ambush them. Batman agrees, and it’s not long before Bruce sets up another meeting with the gang.

The main players of the gang are Bane, John, Harley, and Mr. Freeze. Initially, Bane and Freeze are extremely distrustful of Bruce. Later on, Harley tells Bruce that she wants him to be part of a job that they’re pulling off that night, but he needs to get a majority vote, which means that we need to convince the rest of the gang that he’s trustworthy enough. If players have been managing John well up to this point, he shouldn’t need any convincing.

After smoothing things over with Bane and Freeze, the gang members will pull in a man whom they suspect betrayed them previously. Bane will test Bruce’s resolve by pitting the two men together. For our playthrough, we opted to be brutal with the other gang member to completely earn Bane’s trust. While talking to the Bane, players also have the option of slipping a counter-venom dose into his belt.

At the end of the day, Bruce wins over the trust of the gang, and it’s time to start the job.

The Job

On their way to the job location, Bruce discreetly contacts Waller and tells her to track his location for the ambush. She confirms the order, and Bane instructs Bruce to set off the EMP generator to start the job. They ambush a few agents and a GCPD van that is supposedly holding the big prize that they’re after.

During this sequence, players have to help maintain Bruce’s cover by roughing up the police but also making sure that he doesn’t cross a line. As the cops continue to get beaten up, Bruce contacts Waller again to see where she is. However, Waller tells him to just let them have the package, and that it’s not worth risking her agents’ lives over this. Bruce is angry but has no choice but to go with the gangsters. As more police show up, the rest of the gang hauls the package into their van, and are ready to roll out.

Bane continues to engage the police, but when he tries to buff up with the venom, he injects the counter-venom into himself instead, leaving him powerless. Harley decides to drive off without him, and Bane is left alone with the police.

Back at the hideout, Bruce uses the Phalanx Key to open up the package they stole, and it’s revealed to be the Riddler’s frozen dead body. Before anyone can explain what’s going on, a familiar face shows up. It’s Catwoman. And that’s where the story is left off for now.
