Assassin’s Creed Origins
While Assassin’s Creed: Origins is still in development, its release date of October 27 means that you will be able to play the enhanced version on the Xbox One X when the console is released in November, which is bound to make the game look the best it can.
This is the first major Assassin’s Creed game from Ubisoft since Assassin’s Creed Syndicate in 2015, with the company taking more time to reinvigorate the franchise. The trailers have shown that the ancient Egypt setting looks stunning, and the open world looks even larger than before. If you are interested in playing the game and are also planning to buy the Xbox One X at launch, you may as well wait the two extra weeks.
Forza Horizon 3
One of two Forza titles on the list, Forza Horizon 3Â has been out for nearly a year now. The Horizon series of Forza puts you in a large open world with a road trip festival, with this game having you drive around a region based on Australia.
Forza Horizon 3 looks brilliant as it is, with a lot of detail being put into the cars and the surrounding environments by developers Playground Games, and it also runs very well in terms of frame rate. There’s no doubt that on the Xbox One X the enhanced version of the game will be both very stable, beautiful, and still a load of fun.
Forza Motorsport 7
Like Assassin’s Creed Origins, the next Forza game in the franchise is still being worked on but will be available before the Xbox One X comes out in November.
The Forza Motorsport games have always looked stunning graphically, and it will certainly be the same for Forza Motorsport 7. Unlike other games that will be enhanced for the console, the game has been built with 4K resolution and HDR in mind, which makes sense with it being a first party exclusive title for Microsoft. With the expansion of the weather system by Turn 10, the extra power will be put to good use.
Gears of War 4
Gears of War is one of the flagship game franchises for Microsoft and the Xbox family of consoles, so it wouldn’t be surprising for Gears of War 4 to play well and make good use the power of the Xbox One X well.
The post-apocalyptic environment and the weather mechanics in Gears of War 4 will look even better with the 4K and HDR features, while combat will be gorier than ever before. You play as Marcus Fenix and Anya Stroud’s son J.D. Fenix in an immersive story campaign. Gears of War 4 was nominated for two awards at the Game Awards in 2016.
Halo 5: Guardians
Halo is arguably the biggest gaming franchise that the Xbox consoles and Microsoft have. With Halo 5: Guardians, which released two years ago, and being the only brand new game in the series to be released on the Xbox One, it should be expected that it will look brilliant on the Xbox One X.
The enhanced capabilities should bring out the best of the sci-fi environments in Halo 5: Guardians, especially areas involving futuristic buildings and interior levels. The game should also be relatively cheap with it being two years old, so it would be a good option if getting the Xbox One X leaves you strapped for cash.
Hitman
Hitman is an episodic game where you have to assassinate targets without being noticed, with the story taking place seven years after the last game in the franchise, Hitman: Absolution. While the game has a story to follow, it has a lot of replayability with different ways to assassinate targets and new missions being periodically added by the developers. The first episode released in March 2016 with the sixth and final episode concluding the series in October 2016.
With the open world locations from the individual episodes like Paris, Marrakesh, and Bangkok already looking great as is, Hitman should look even better when using the power and features of the Xbox One X.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor was a success for developers Monolith Productions, and Warner Bros. Interactive who published the game. A sequel to the game is currently in development, and is due to release in October before the Xbox One X comes out. Players will continue the story of the protagonist from the first game, with the series taking place in between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
The open-world action RPG will be able to make good use of the 4K resolution, shaders, and run at 60 frames per second. Considering the previous game also released on current generation consoles, they already have a benchmark to beat.
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Rise of the Tomb Raider was the sequel to the much loved Tomb Raider reboot. Originally an Xbox exclusive before coming to PC in January 2016 and the PlayStation 4 a year after release, the game puts you in control of Lara Croft again as you explore and traverse in interesting environments, with a gripping story to keep you interested.
The power of the Xbox One X should improve the texture quality of Rise of the Tomb Raider so that it looks great on both 4K televisions alongside normal displays. The natural environments will look even more beautiful, and on the Xbox One X should look closer to what players have enjoyed on PCs.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
Skyrim is one of those games that seems to have released on everything. One of the classic RPGs from the last 10 years, Bethesda released a new edition of Skyrim for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The newer version, which released October 2016, came with many graphical changes like enhanced textures and shaders alongside modding support.
On the Xbox One X, these enhancements will look even better, playing as close to the PC version of the game as ever before. The same can be said for Bethesda’s other title Fallout 4, which will also be enhanced on the Xbox One X.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from CD Projekt RED is not only the best game in the series, but one of the best RPGs created. The move to an open world adventure with Geralt worked very well, with very large maps filled with interesting characters and quests to do.
It’s also one of the best looking games made, even on consoles. When The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is able to use the power of the Xbox One X to obtain 4K resolution and higher textures, it should be at a similar level visually as the PC version of the game. The whole world will look even more beautiful than before, and if you haven’t played the game yet this will be a good time to change that.
