PS PLUS FREE GAMES FOR SEPTEMBER 2017

Payday 2

[UPDATE: The official PS+ Free Games for September have been revealed.]

As summer keeps heading towards the door and school/work obligations are approaching on the horizon, you’ll need some free games to get you through these last sacred days. Luckily, PlayStation owners can indulge in some free monthly titles if they subscribe to PlayStation Plus, and we can take a stab at what some of those games might be for the upcoming September 2017 collection.

Usually, there is one bigger game headlining the list. For August it was Just Cause 3 (with Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry thrown in there as well) which was a pretty great inclusion since the action-adventure game from Avalanche Studios and Square Enix released only a couple years ago in 2015 and is still priced at $59.99 on the PlayStation Store.

This coming month, we suspect Payday 2: Crimewave Edition will be featured as the bigger games for September’s lineup. Payday 2 has been featured on a PS3 PlayStation Plus list in the past, but in 2015 it was brought onto the newer platforms with a ton of DLC available as well including new weapons packs, special heists, and character packs.

It’s also always smart to include multiplayer games in the PlayStation Plus line-up to encourage multiple downloads between friends. If Payday 2 doesn’t come to PS Plus this month, then we highly suspect it should be on there sometime very soon.

PS PLUS FREE GAMES FOR SEPTEMBER 2017

With the anticipated release of Nidhogg 2 on Aug. 15, it seems like a no-brainer to release the original Nidhogg on PS Plus for this month to encourage players to try out the critically-acclaimed first title before purchasing the second. Nidhogg released back in October 2014 and featured extremely basic pixel sprites for fun two-player, side-scrolling, multiplayer fighting. The goal is to reach the opponent’s side of the screen by killing them repeatedly and moving forward while they respawn.

Although Nidhogg 2 has a different artsyle than the original, the gameplay is similar. You slash and stab anyone that stands in your way, using your skilled swordsmanship to push forward to the other side of the environments. Plus, Nidhogg is also available on the PS Vita, and we all know how much Sony loves including cross-play titles in their PS Plus lineups.

Another likely candidate is the adorable combat arena game Deformers, where you control chubby, spherical little characters who bounce and smash against each other in couch co-op and online multiplayer. It was released in April of this year and is a great, whacky game to have in your arsenal whenever a few friends come over.

VR GAME

PS PLUS FREE GAMES FOR SEPTEMBER 2017

tiny trax, PSVR

Tiny Trax is a PSVR racing game where you can look down at the colorful tracks as you control your car around in a very Slot Car toy race track sort of way. Even though it just released recently in July, since it is so easy to pick up and even has 2-4 online multiplayer functionality, it is a great game to introduce new PSVR owners to some of the types of titles available on the platform with basic but fun gameplay.

It’s also worth noting that Tiny Trax is a PSVR exclusive, so there’s no competition on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift for sale or discount prices in the future. Providing this game for free next month would show some great support for PSVR owners who choose to invest in Sony’s VR technology when other, more established headsets are already available.

What are some games you would like to see this coming month? Break out your crystal ball and let us know down in the comments.
