Is Fortnite Free to Play?

People Can Fly’s Fortnite has finally arrived on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, allowing players to build giant forts as they fight off hordes of enemies. With a ton of different systems at play, there’s plenty to get your teeth into. Currently, the game is in early access and starts at $39.99 if you’re interested in jumping in. However, with the game being announced as a free to play title, there’s a bit of confusion surrounding whether or not Fortnite is actually free.

The good news is that yes, Fortnite is free to play. The bad news, however, is that it’s not free to play yet. During this early access period, players must pay to gain access to the game via the Founder’s Pack.

As you may have guessed, though, these Founder’s Packs comes with a bunch of in-game goodies. The Standard Founder’s Pack, available for $39.99, includes four exclusive in-game banner icons, six daily loot Pinata Packs, and an exclusive Founder’s Loot Pinata Pack.

While it may be disappointing to some players that Fortnite isn’t currently free to play, know that you’re at least getting some extra content on top of early access for your money.

If you’re not interested in paying for the game, you’ll just have to hold off until sometime in 2018. People Can Fly and Epic Games haven’t yet revealed when the game will go free to play within the year yet.
