E3 Microsoft Press Conference: The Xbox One X Gets Officially Unveiled with a Release Date and Tons of New Details

Xbox One X

After a long time waiting and a few details drip fed to fans over the past few months, the highly-anticipated Project Scorpio got its official name: Xbox One X. Not only that, but the console got a set release date of Nov. 7. The product will update all games to look as good as they possibly can, offering true 4K. 8 million pixels, high-def sound, and many more features make for what is being proudly touted as the most powerful console ever.

It will priced at $500, a full $100 over the PS4 Pro. It will be interesting to see how that effects its standing in the market, but color us impressed by the power.

E3 Microsoft Press Conference: Forza Motorsport 7

While it was to be expected, it didn’t change the fact that our first glimpse at Forza 7 was truly impressive. The textures in the world around you, the painstaking details of each car, the speed and pure beauty of the sport. Of course, Microsoft has proven that they can’t reveal a racing game without bringing a vehicle out. This time it was the world premiere of the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. After that though, the show went back to the gameplay where we got to see realistic weather effects, photorealistic maps, and tight racing that will allow players to drive over 700 cars.

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, it will run at native 4K at a “rock steady” 60fps. The game is set to release on Oct. 3, well ahead of the Xbox One X, but it will be ready to utilize the upcoming console’s full potential.

E3 Microsoft Press Conference: Metro Exodus

The Metro games, based off of the popular Russian sci-fi novel series, is finally returning on the Xbox One X, with Metro Exodus. The series is an interesting combination of horror and sci-fi elements, casting you as a survivor in post-apocalyptic Russia living out your days in the Metro subway system.

Things look a bit different with Metro Exodus, however, as it seems the new open world game will let you explore the surface world, as well as the dangerous subway tunnels. Metro games have always told fascinating stories tinged with supernatural elements, and hopefully Metro Exodus will be the same, as the series makes its debut in 4K and on the Xbox One X.

E3 Microsoft Press Conference: Assassin’s Creed Origins

There have certainly been rumors but Ubisoft finally got to show off the game that Assassin’s Creed players have been waiting years for: Assassin’s Creed Origins. Set in ancient Egypt, players will finally get to meet the first of the brotherhood. While the series has taken players through many different periods, this is the furthest back its ever gone, letting players see just what formed the shadowy organization we know today.

In order to expand on the game some new features were added in, chief of which are some deeper RPG mechanics and the appearance of mythical creatures. That second one is very new for the series, which has dabbled in the supernatural, but never in such a physical sense that actually had players fighting monsters. The combat looked changed up a bit too.

E3 Microsoft Press Conference: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a Launch Exclusive

playerunknown battlegrounds, month 2 update

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has exploded in popularity on PC, and soon console players will be able to get in on the fun. Jump into huge arenas with friends or as a lone wolf and fight in a battle royale to the death until you’re the last one standing. It’s launching exclusively on the Xbox One later this year, and will get an update that takes advantage of the Xbox One X sometime after that.

If you’ve never played Battlegrounds, fights can become intense as you scavenge for gear, take advantage of the world around you, and use everything at your disposal to kill every one who dares cross your path.

E3 Microsoft Press Conference: State of Decay 2

state of decay 2

The first State of Decay provided a new take on zombie survival. One that forced players to really think about the decisions they made, as it wasn’t only them that had to deal with the consequences. The developers are stepping things up a notch with an even more gruesome world and tougher monstrosities trying to end the last remnants of humanity, particularly you and your fellow survivors.

E3 Microsoft Press Conference: Cross-Platform Play Minecraft

minecraft

Minecraft will finally unite all of the different platforms that the game is available on, letting you play with anyone who has the game no matter where they play (other than Sony platforms and last-gen consoles). Consoles PC, mobile devices, you name it and it can connect to other players. On top of this, user-created content will be able to be shared, and you’ll even be set up servers from within the game itself. Oh, and of course they had to provide some 4K updates to give you the most of the blocky action.

There was also the reveal of the Super Duper Graphics pack which really ups the ante on the visuals that you can pull out of Minecraft.

E3 Microsoft Press Conference: Crackdown 3

Finally, after years of waiting and complete radio silence, Crackdown 3 gets an action packed gameplay trailer that was introduced by Terry Crews (because who better to hype up everyone up to get into some super powered combat).

The gameplay showed off some multiplayer mayhem as players demolished enemies while jumping over buildings with ease. Of course, we all knew it was coming eventually, but everyone was getting tired of all the waiting and secrecy. Fortunately enough, we don’t have to wait for too much longer as it’s set to release right alongside the Xbox One X in November.

E3 Microsoft Press Conference: Life Is Strange: Before the Storm

life is strange before the storm

Before the Storm is set to tell the tale of Chloe and Rachel Amber before the events that we saw in the first game. Though we didn’t get any specific details, we did seem to see Chloe rewinding time, which it looked like she uses to witness the death of her father.

Due to premiere on August 31, Life Is Strange: Before the Storm is a three-part miniseries. Whether this is the exact series that DONTNOD revealed last month remains to be seen, but with a soundtrack that sounds like it’ll live up to its predecessor, fans should most definitely be hyped for August.

E3 Microsoft Press Conference: Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Ori and the Blind Forest is easily one of the best games available on the Xbox One, and one of the greatest indies to release in the last few years. After the emotional onslaught that had us crying (or maybe it was just me) as we dealt with love, loss, and coming of age, it’s time for another trip through heartache and absolute beauty.

The sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, was announced with a live piano accompaniment that brought back all the feels that the first game sent rushing through us.

E3 Microsoft Press Conference: Anthem

Anthem

BioWare had been cooking something up for a long time, but they were keeping everything under wraps. During EA Play, it was revealed that the title was Anthem, a new sci-fi RPG that’s taking players to yet another dangerous world. During the Microsoft press conference, we were treated to some actual gameplay running on the Xbox One X and it was absolutely gorgeous.

It was easily the best looking game of the show, and it looks like BioWare has been hiding some tricks up their sleeves. Fully customizable mechanical suits, explosive combat, thrilling world traversal, and much more await those that will step into Anthem’s new world.

E3 Microsoft Press Conference: Indie Love

platformers

For starters, after what felt like forever, and a complete revamp, Cuphead finally got a release date of Sept. 29. That alone was cause for excitement, but Microsoft kept it up by showing even more, several of which are full or timed exclusives to Xbox and its ecosystem. The Last Night, Ashen, and Deep Rock Galactic were just a few beautiful examples that were shown off during the show. The fact that Microsoft once again felt it was worth it to show off some stellar smaller titles alongside their blockbusters was a beautiful thing.
