If you’ve got your hands on Breath of the Wild, chances are you’ve also discovered that the game has amiibo functionality. By tapping certain figures onto your Nintendo Switch or Wii U, you’ll be able to earn certain buffs, items, or companions to help you on your adventure to save Hyrule once more.

To use amiibo in Breath of the Wild, it’s not as simple as just tapping the figures on your Switch Joy-Con. Instead, you’ll first need to enable the functionality in Breath of the Wild itself. This can be done in one of two ways. First, from the main menu, head down to amiibo and press A. You’ll then be asked if you want to enable functionality in Breath of the Wild. Confirm this and then load up your game. Press L to open up your different runes and you should now find that you have an amiibo rune available. Select this and you should see a white circle appear on the ground. This is where things will land, depending on which amiibo you scan in.

The alternative way to enable this functionality is by pressing the plus button and scrolling over to the system menu. Select options and at the top, you should see the option to enable or disable the figures’ functionality within the game.

That’s all you need to do to use the collectible figures in Breath of the Wild. For more tips, tricks, and information for the game, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki guide.
