Evolve

Evolve has had a pretty rough time since its original launch, but hey, it’s one of the free games available for Xbox One owners this month, meaning that you can enjoy it at no cost. Evolve is a fun co-operative shooter where four players must band together to take down a gigantic monster in the world of Shear. For the humans, the trick is to hunt down the monster as quickly as possible. If the monster ends up consuming too much wildlife, it’ll evolve and become even harder for you to kill.

If you’re in the mood for some creepy horror games, the Games With Gold program has you covered for March. Layers of Fear is a popular indie horror game that has players explore a scary house while learning the story behind a genius painter who has gone mad for some reason. The game plays around with psychological horror and jump scares (of course), so you’ll be in for an unsettling and disturbingly good time. Sort of.

Borderlands 2 (Games With Gold)

If you haven’t already picked up Borderlands 2, you no longer have an excuse. Gearbox’s popular looter shooter series has been around for quite some time, but Borderlands 2 still remains a joy to play through, especially with friends. Jump into Pandora and enjoy the lovely cel-shaded graphics as you gun down Psychos in search of better weapons. It’s important to note that this is the entry that features Claptrap, who is arguably the most annoying robot in video game history, so your mileage with Borderlands 2 may vary.

The dungeons are sprawling, and they contain multiple routes you can take, along with puzzles you’ll have to solve along the way. There’s also a crafting system of sorts where you can create armor pieces from materials obtained after defeating bosses.

However, the aliens have some pretty scary forces of their own. The aliens send in large (and I mean large) insect-like creatures to terrorize the planet, and it’s up to you to keep the world free of these terrifying abominations. It’s not for the squeamish.
