Rock Smash HM – Pokemon Sun and Moon

Pokemon Sun and Moon is a brand-new Pokemon game in more than just name. Along with the new Alola Region comes a slew of new mechanics that change how players interact with and train their monsters. One of the big changes made was the removal of HMs in favor of a Poke Ride system that provides the same utility. That means there is no Rock Smash HM to be found in the game, but that doesn’t mean there are no rocks that need smashing.

Using Poke Ride, you can summon two different monsters that have the ability to smash rocks depending on your situation. On land there’s Tauros who can charge through obstacles, opening up previously unreachable paths. On water you have Sharpedo, who uses its jet ability to dash through rocks and open up new areas.

Once you unlock them for your Poke Ride menu by playing through Pokemon Sun and Moon, you’ll be able to summon them whenever you want for as long as you want. Do note, though, that they won’t join your party. You can find either of these monsters out in the wild for your party, but the ones that are summoned are different.
