Popplio
- Category:Â Sea Lion
- Height:Â 1′ 4″
- Weight:Â 16.5 lbs.
- Type:Â Water
- Ability:Â Torrent
Popplio has been getting the least amount of love so far. We’re not sure if it’s because of the clown nose or the fact that he hasn’t proved to be very exciting just yet. It doesn’t help that the other new starters are a fireball-spitting cat and an owl with a bow-tie. But, if previous Pokemon games are any indicator, Popplio will definitely come into his own eventually.
Popplio is a sea lion, so naturally he’s a water-type Pokemon who happens to be able to swim at an impressive speed (25 mph according to its official description). That’s all well and good for those who find themselves in the water while exploring the brand new region of Alola. Still, it’s pretty impressive for such a tiny, and oddly adorable, Pokemon.
As far as evolutions and attacks go, not much has been revealed concerning Popplio. We do know that Popplio will use a Water Gun attack that will fire bubbles from its nose.Â
Rowlet
- Category:Â Grass Quill
- Height:Â 1′
- Weight:Â 3.3 lbs.
- Type: Grass/Flying
- Ability:Â Overgrow
Rowlet is a Grass Quill Pokemon and is a Grass/Flying type. It’s also incredibly adorable – I mean, just look at that leaf bow-tie. Like the owl it’s based on, Rowlet is a very quiet hunter, able to approach opponents stealthily and using its adorably vicious claws for attacks. Also, although its feathers look cute and neat, some of them are actually razor-sharp.
While Rowlet is plenty cute, it can be a bit creepy thanks to the fact that it’s based on an owl. Like a real owl, Rowlet can twist its neck to face directly behind it. The reason is innocent enough: it’s to look at its trainer for instructions. But it’s also terrifying.
Just like Popplio, information regarding Rowlet’s evolutions and attacks are sparse. The only attack that has been revealed for this lovely little bird is Leafage. It’s a ranged attack that fires some of its razor sharp feather-leaves at the opponent.Â
Litten
- Category: Fire Cat
- Height:Â 1′ 4″
- Weight:Â 9.5 lbs.
- Type:Â Fire
- Ability:Â Blaze
Litten is a Fire Cat, yet this kitten is very different from other flame types that came before it when it comes to its personality. Litten is described as logical, passionate, and very coolheaded, not something you’d expect from a creature who can instantly set things on fire. Its skin is shiny and full of oil, making Litten highly flammable. In fact, it’s that oil that allows Litten to cough up flaming fur balls to burn its foes.
The only thing revealed about Litten for now, as far as gameplay goes, is that it use Ember, which fires a small flame at an opponent. It’s not the most impressive fire move in Pokemon so far, but it’s a start that will be sure to grow into something great.
There’s still a lot left to learn about the adorable starters for Pokemon Sun and Moon, so make sure to check back in as we update with more information. As you wait though, check out some of the evolution predictions fans all over the internet have come up with.
