Therefore, it only seems right to take this opportunity to look at the top 10 best reviewed Wii U games of all time and check out the average scores for critics and users alike. Though these titles may not be exclusive to the Wii U, though many of them are, these are the best experiences that you can play on Nintendo’s current home console right now.

10. Super Mario Maker

Super Mario Maker, sequel, 2015

Releasing last year to quite a bit of critical acclaim, Super Mario Maker gave aspiring game designers the tools to show the world just how creative, and evil, that they could be. With a wide range of different skins, Mario-related items, and options to choose from, Super Mario Maker offered limitless amounts of replayability and enjoyment.

With a current average critic score of 88 based on 85 reviews, Super Mario Maker was received particularly well among the press. Many of the positive comments focused on just how much replay value the game offered, as well as the thriving online community full of fun and challenging levels. The user score sits at a similarly high 8.8, too, showing you just how much the community is enjoying it.

9. Mario Kart 8

Mario Kart 8 continued to bring the chaotic fun of the Mario racing series to the Wii U, while introducing a couple of new features in the form of antigravity karts and new racing circuit designs. Remaining just as fun in single player as it is in multiplayer, Mario Kart 8 is a great game to put in and play whatever the occasion.

Mario Kart 8 also currently sits at an average critic score of 88 based off of 82 reviews. Many of the positives focus on the new features, as well as it retaining the chaotic enjoyment of the series. The user score sits even higher, with a score of 9.1 based on 1487 ratings.

8. Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut

Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut is the best way to play through this sci-fi experience. The Director’s Cut includes the Missing Link DLC and combines it into the standard single player experience. In doing so, the game has a more natural flow to its story and makes the experience all the better for it. Improved textures, reworked bosses, commentary, and New Game + were also included.

With another average critic score of 88, and a user score of 8.3, Deus Ex’s venture onto the Wii U was praised for fixing a few of the big issues that were part of the original release. The use of the Wii U features was also praised for adding new, interesting mechanics into the action.

7. Skylanders Swap Force

Skylanders Swap Force, best reviewed, Wii U, top scored

Skylanders Swap Force has portal masters heading out on a new adventure into the mysterious Cloudbreak Islands where a magical volcano gives the heroes a special power. They are now able to swap halves of their bodies with one another or should I say, you’re able to by pulling the plastic characters apart and mixing and matching away.

With improved visuals and sound, as well as new gameplay mechanics, Skylanders Swap Force broke the mold of the series for the better. Its average review score of 89 is only based on seven reviews, however, and its user score is sitting at a rating of 6.1.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition sits at number six with an average critic score of 90 based on nine reviews. Though based on a smaller number of reviews, the consensus among these reviews still stands that this edition of the game is the definitive way to experience an already excellent action-platformer. The game also has a user score of 7.4 based on 114 ratings.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is the definitive version of the game, taking the already stunning cell-shaded visuals of Link and the world around him, and remastering them to 1080p. While it may not have been a Wii U exclusive like most of the other games on this list, Rayman Legends still succeeded in delivering some of the best platforming action available on the console. As a direct sequel to Rayman Origins, Legends received critical acclaim for its excellent visuals, genius level design, and toe-tapping soundtrack.
