Fallout 4: How to Get Dogmeat to Be Your Companion

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

As is customary with wasteland tales of a lone wanderer traversing a harsh, post-apocalyptic world, you get a dog in Fallout games. Dogmeat has been a staple of the franchise and can be missed. Dearly missed, because who would ever want to go through the adventure without an awesome canine pal? Some of us poor souls even went the entirety of Fallout 3 without ever finding him.

Luckily, Bethesda has learned that dogs are everything and this was utter bullshit. Finding Dogmeat in Fallout 4 is as easy as following the main quest. You first leave the Vault and stumble about the world (blinded as hell by the sun). You soon come across an abandoned garage named Red Rocket. There, you’ll hear the whimpers of a lovable companion, and Dogmeat will run up to you. He’s so happy to see you and doesn’t even have a clue who you are. How could you say no to that face?

In that very instance, you’ll have made a friend for life (or the rest of your Fallout 4 journey). You can even make him hold your items and distract enemies as he gets pummeled. Ah, Dogmeat’s the best. Let us all give three snaps to Bethesda for making him really easy to find, thus allowing light into our lives.

What do you think of Dogmeat? Is he your favorite companion or are you wrong? Let us know in the comments below! And for more Fallout 4, check out our wiki!
