Tips & Tricks For Dying Light The Following

If you’ve never played Dying Light and have just picked up the Enhanced Edition to try out The Following, you may want to stop before jumping right in. The Following is much more challenging than the base game thanks to its open nature. It’s not as easy to hide from hordes of the infected, nor will even the best of weapons last against the sheer amount of these monstrosities.

You’ll want a lot of skills backing you up before you even think of attempting to clean out the Countryside. Survival Level 12 at the very least is a must have thanks to the Grappling Hook ability. You’ll need to be able to get out of bad situations quickly, nothing like being Spiderman for a second to make that happen.

Remember, you don’t necessarily have to beat Dying Light to access The Following, but at least use the city of Harran to practice and get your skills up.

Get The Buggy ASAP and Drive Around

Dying Light: The Following

Once you step out into the open world of The Following, you’ll be able to embark on quests, or just explore as you see fit. Before you run off for some fun, complete the first couple of story objectives so that you can obtain the Buggy. This is your customizable vehicle that also has a skill tree attached to it.

By driving around and running over enemies, you’ll earn experience towards this tree so you can unlock upgrades for your personal Buggy. Ramming bars, electricity, reinforced cages, nitrous, alarms, and more are available and will help you out a lot while playing through The Following’s story.

So don’t rush into anything, just explore the world and then go after the new threat. You’ll thank yourself later.

Long Range is Where You Want to Be

Tips & Tricks For Dying Light The Following

With the wide open fields and dense woods of the Countryside, The Following loves to surround you with enemies and no place to go. There’s no abundance of tall buildings or back alleys to lose the infected or bandits in. Charging into a crowd of enemies will lead to you running with dozens of flesh eating fiends on your back. Not even your Buggy is completely safe, they’ll jump right on and claw at you as you sit in your motorized casket.

The Following places a large emphasis on firearms and bows. With different types of ammunition, you’ll be able to take down hordes from afar, and that’s exactly what you should be doing. It may look like fun to dance among the dead, but your health would appreciate admiring them from a distance.

Search Every Car You come Across

Upgrading your Buggy will require parts, parts that you won’t find in the same places as the other junk you scavenge. You’ll need to search the hoods of all the dead vehicles on the road. You’ll get screws, tubing, wiring, and more. Also, make sure to check them for gas.

The Buggy you drive doesn’t run on fumes or imagination. Once it’s out of gas, you’re screwed. There is nothing worse than being stranded at night with a dead vehicle while Volatiles lurk in the high grass. There is no hiding, so you can kiss your survival goodbye. Always have screws and gas so you can repair and refuel no matter what happens.

Play With Friends

If you can, you should always consider playing with others. The Following is much more challenging than Dying Light was, and there are even segments built for multiple players such as the Freaks. Bases are harder to take down, zombies are faster and deadlier, and driving around the Countryside can be pretty lonely.

Bring a pal with some good weapons and get into some mayhem. See who can run over the most people, ride shotgun and blast zombie heads off, or just kick ass with someone watching your back. No matter what you decide to do, things are always better with friends.

Stealth is a Big Deal

Stealth plays a much bigger part in The Following than it did in the base game. Safe zones will often have bandits guarding them, and they don’t go down easily. Usually, the initial forces will have melee weapons. You can sneak around taking them out one by one. If you happen to slip up they’ll call in the armed forces. The last thing you want to deal with when looking for a safe place to lay low is 20 enemies with fully automatic weapons and good aim.

The infected operate in the same way. If you can keep quiet, they won’t alert anyone nearby. Just take out the necessary ones stealthily and keep it moving. There’s much more variety in groupings this time around and you do not want to start a party with any of them.

These tips will keep you alive as you delve into Dying Light: The Following’s mysterious story. Uncover the secrets of the Countryside and try your best to survive.

Good night, good luck.
