No rest for the wicked.
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Gearbox’s Borderlands franchise is big. Spanning three main games, multiple comics, and a side game, the FPS/RPG franchise has struck a chord with people, and it’s wildly popular. It’s popular enough to where the studio can make something that’s easily Borderlands with a bigger sci-fi/fantasy bent, get people excited for that, and STILL have those some folks begging for some news on the third numbered entry in the franchise. What could make it better? How’s about a movie?

Lionsgate will be making a movie based on the big franchise, with Avi and Ari Arad as the producers. If those names sound familiar, it’s because they’re the producers behind multiple superhero film franchises like Blade, Iron Man, and X-Men. Lionsgate co-chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger explain their reasoning:

“Part of our strategy in entering the game space under Peter Levin has been to source new brands with built-in audiences that will translate into great films and television shows. The ‘Borderlands’ games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise.”

Take Two Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick are also speaking positively about the film deal:

“Lionsgate has emerged as a major creative force in the global marketplace with an incredible portfolio of brands; our partners at Gearbox have pioneered and cultivated an iconic property; and Avi and Ari Arad are two of the most successful producers of action franchises. This alliance is ideally positioned to create a bold, provocative, no-holds-barred motion picture phenomenon that will delight ‘Borderlands” current legions of fans and captivate moviegoers around the world.”
