It's being summoned by the Illuminati. Not Beyonce and Jay-Z though.

Square Enix has released a new teaser trailer for the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward raid, Alexander. Yup, it’s that Alexander, and it’s under the control of the Illuminati… OK let me explain.

No Beyonce and Jay-Z aren’t summoning Alexander in FFXIV: Heavensward. Although it would be pretty rad if they did. What a power couple move that would be. The Illuminati are a faction of mischievous Goblins hell bent on controlling the world’s premiere cheese recipes. Yeah it’s kind of weird.

I’m not sure exactly how summoning one of Final Fantasy’s most iconic and powerful avatars plays into their quest for cheese recipes, but either way, heroes of Eorzea must travel into Alexander to put a stop to it before he crushes the peaceful town of people and goblins at Idyllshire.

This is FFXIV’s third raid. During the 2.0 series, The Binding Coil of Bahamut (and its two subsequent coils) was the hardcore raid, reserved for the game’s elite players. While the Crystal Tower (of Final Fantasy III fame), was for casual-midcore players. In FFXIV: Heavensward, the Alexander raid will have two difficulties, one that is on par with the extreme primals, and another (Savage) that is akin to the three Bahamut raids.

The new Alexander raid will be available for Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward when Patch 3.01 is released tomorrow. Check out the trailer above, or see its description from the lodestone below for more information. Since the Sharlayan exodus, a structure has stood steady against the flow of the Thaliak River. Now, the Illuminati have summoned a primal around this rusting ruin─a terrible colossus of steam and metal. Steel screamed against steel when it rose from the waters, and it drank deep of the land’s aether before grinding again to a halt.

The voices of Idyllshire cry out, asking for aid ere their homes are crushed under the weight of iron. You must lead a band of valiant adventurers into the machina and discover how to destroy the core─lest the giant screeches again to life, and bleeds all the realm dry.
