It has been announced that Warner Bros has started production on a film adaption of the very popular Five Nights at Freddy’s games. The film will be produced by Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment who is known for producing many scary films such as 2014’s Godzilla, The Ring, The Grudge, The Strangers, Quarantine, and The Woman in Black. He also produced The Lego Movie, but quiet you!
Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions are also involved with the project and writers are currently being looked for. It also seems like the original creator of the Five Nights at Freddy’s games, Scott Cawthon, is going to be involved, based on this press release:
“We’re looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie,” said Grahame-Smith.
“The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to,” said Cawthon.
Five Nights at Freddy’s originally started as a Steam Greenlight game and his since gained a massive following after many big name YouTubers started doing Lets Play videos of it. It’sall to common for a game to end up in development hell when they are adapted for films, but here’s hoping the film comes out and does well.
Games are notorious for being poorly adapted to the big screen as movies like Doom, Hitman, and Max Payne have all proved. However, there are film based movies currently in the works that might not suck. Famed actor Michael Fassbender is currently linked to an upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie and Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckman is currently working on a film script for The Last of Us.
