Super Mario 64 Is Being Remade But Not By Nintendo

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

A non-Nintendo funded Super Mario 64 HD Remake is on its way to PC. A group of fans of the 18 year old game have taken the task upon themselves as a non-profit project, and the small selection of programmers and artists has released a short video showing their progress over the last year, which you can check out above.

The video shows off the visual improvement over the original and has some work-in-progress gameplay. So far, Mario himself seems to have had the bulk of the improvements. Also shown off is Peach’s Castle, which has been given new textures and new lighting effects.

Currently, the Super Mario 64: Fan Remake will be releasing only on PC, as Nintendo is not supporting the project and a release date has not yet been confirmed. You can view an FAQ about the game here.
