How to Get Ability Chunks in Splatoon 3

Here are all the different ways you can snag Ability Chunks in Splatoon 3:

  • Obtained as possible prizes in Salmon Run
  • Obtained as pick-ups in the Alterna story mode
  • Play Online/Turf Ranked Matches
  • Obtained as prizes in the gacha Shell-Out Machine

Salmon Run is the hoard mode where you and other players fight against AI, similar to Call of Duty: Zombies. When you play it, you can accumulate prizes, but you don’t get them automatically, you have to collect them at the window in the lobby. You can access this mode by opening your menu with X and selecting Grizzco.

The two easiest ways to get Ability Chunks is done by progressing the Alterna story mode or playing Online/Turf Ranked Matches. When you play more of these, you’ll gain experience and your gear will automatically get abilities added to them.

Where Is the Shell-Out (Gacha) Machine

Lastly, there is the game’s gacha mechanic, called the Shell-Out machine. This is located in the online lobby, which you get to by hitting X for the menu and selecting Lobby. It looks like a bubblegum machine and is located on the right side of the area.

You can pay 5000 coins each day to get a random prize drop, and after the first drop of the day, it costs 30,000 coins to get more drops. Ability Chunks are one of the prizes that comes from this.

To equip your gear with the chunks of your choice, go to Murch in the Square, though you will need at least 10 of the same kind to put it in your gear.
