The next generation of sim racing is finally here on the PS5 with Gran Turismo 7. But if you aren’t one of the lucky ten people to have found a PS5 hiding in some dark forgotten corner of a small-town Walmart, then you are probably starting out on PS4. Fortunately, there’s a path to take the step to the next generation once you finally get your hands on Sony’s latest elusive hardware. Here’s everything you need to know about how to upgrade Gran Turismo 7 from PS4 to PS5.
How to Upgrade Gran Turismo 7 From PS4 to PS5 Version
First off, there are two different upgrade methods that you can use to unlock all of the extra visual goodies present on the PS5 version of GT7 like ray-tracing and full 4K resolution. The only catch is that upgrading means you’ll have to download the game on PS5. Even if you have the physical version of the game on PS4, there’s no upgrade path that will end with you getting a physical disc of the game.
Upgrading From PS4 Disc
Before getting started, it’s important to note that you can play the PS4 version of GT7 on the PS5 without any issues. You just won’t get any of the visual upgrades or super-fast SSD load times that come along with the current-gen version. Also, you will need the version of the PS5 that has the disc drive.
First, pop your disc of GT7 into the slot, then head on over to the PS Store on your PS5. You should see an option on the game page that will let you upgrade to the standard digital version of GT7 on PS5 for $10. Since it’s a completely different console version of the game it may still take a while to download and install depending upon your internet speed.
Upgrading From PS4 Download
This one is a bit more straightforward. No physical media is required whatsoever. You don’t even need to currently have the game installed on your system. As long as you own the digital PS4 version of the game, the game’s page on the PS Store will always give you the option of upgrading to the PS5 version for $10. This upgrade can be done at any time that works for you. There’s no rush since this is not a limited-time offer.
