Dying Light 2: Best Skills in Parkour & Combat

Like its predecessor before it, Techland’s latest sequel features a skill tree that players invest points into to upgrade Aiden. While all of them are functional, some are certainly better than others. So, here we’ve compiled a list of the best skills in parkour and combat in Dying Light 2.

Best Parkour Skills

Parkour is at the core of what makes Dying Light 2 such a fun gameplay experience, but it’s also something you’ll need to master if you’re wanting to beat the game’s hardest areas. When things get super hectic during zombie chase sequences, you’ll need options to navigate the terrain as quickly as possible. Here are the skills we recommend in particular:

  • Dash – As we’ve explained in our dedicated sprint guide, there isn’t actually a sprint function as standard in Dying Light 2. It’s something you need to unlock in the skills menu, and while it’s not technically the most exciting skill, it’s arguably the most useful.
  • Double Jump – Most gamers will be familiar with the age-old double jump, and Dying Light 2 features one that makes traversing the city so much easier. Get it as quickly as possible.
  • Enemy Jump – While there aren’t necessarily that many opportunities to chain together general parkour with jumping over enemies, this skill is useful simply for getting away from hordes of zombies. It allows you to just spam R1/RB if you’re in a pinch and you won’t take damage.
  • Firm Grip – This is absolutely essential during the early stages of the game as your stamina isn’t particularly high but you’re often faced with scaling tall buildings and generally leaping across rooftops. It gives you one last chance to clamber up onto a ledge even when your stamina is drained.

Best Combat Skills in Dying Light 2

The best combat skills in Dying Light 2 will be subjective for each player based on what sort of build they’re going for. Obviously, those who prefer ranged combat will want to save their skill points and upgrade only what is necessary to unlock that particular branch as quickly as possible. Below, we’ve highlighted some of what we consider the best across general combat, melee, ranged, and stealth.

  • Perfect Dodge – While parrying attacks isn’t too complicated in Dying Light 2, there’s no getting around the fact that dodging is just easier. And with the Perfect Dodge skill, Aiden will stagger enemies just as he does with the harder Perfect Parry. This is good for melee builds, and it starts an upgrade tree that eventually leads to Grapple and Grapple Throw, which are also fun to use (though not necessarily vital).
  • Heavy Attack/Windmill Attack – These two skills are essential for general combat and melee builds, with the former being excellent at taking out enemies in a single hit or taking off lots of damage to bosses, while the latter is a great crowd control move.
  • Stab – Even if you’re not going for a stealth built, the stab just makes takedowns faster and easier. For those who are, this branch of the tree opens up Multi Stab and Ledge Takedowns, which are great for sneaky executions.
  • Smash Jump – Not exactly super important, but this skill is fun and generally useful for all builds, and if you enjoy this then consider the Air kick as well.
  • Ranged builds will want to invest in the tree that begins with Precise shot, and eventually leads to Multi Shooting and Parkour Shots.
