AC New Horizons Happy Home Paradise: How to Make Villagers Roommates

The Happy Home Paradise DLC for Animal Crossing New Horizons is all about designing dream vacation homes for villagers. At first, only one villager will be able to stay in each house you design. Eventually, though, you’ll be able to assign roommates for villagers so that two can vacation in the same house. You may be wondering how to unlock this and how it all works. Here’s everything you need to know about how to make villagers roommates in Animal Crossing New Horizons: Happy Home Paradise.

How to Make Villagers Roommates in Happy Home Paradise

The option to make two villagers roommates in Animal Crossing New Horizons Happy Home Paradise unlocks after you have completed 16 vacation home jobs.

Lottie and Niko will explain this new option for you when one of the villagers you’ve already designed a vacation home for walks into the Paradise Planning office to request a roommate. This first villager is completely random.

Your task is to find a suitable roommate for whoever this villager is. You have a number of options.

Your first option is that you can choose a new villager who is hanging out on the beach or in one of your facilities. Simply approach them and talk to them, and they will express interest in being roommates with the villager who is requesting it.

Your second option is that you can choose a villager who you already made a vacation home for. You’ll need to talk to Niko for this. When he says “What’s up?”, select “Talk to a homeowner.” An important thing to note here is that if you select one of these villagers, it will completely destroy the home you already made for them, so be sure you aren’t attached to that.

You have a third and final option if you don’t like any of these prospective roommates. You can use the souvenir chocolate that you’ve purchased in the Paradise Planning office to invite a villager from your home island. Press – to save and quit while looking for a roommate, and this will take you back to your island. From there, give one of your villagers the souvenir chocolate, which invites them to the archipelago. This will put them on the beach for you to start working and ask them to be a roommate.

After you’ve selected a roommate, you’ll be taken to the original villager’s vacation home and you are free to design it to be suitable for both animals. Luckily, there’s no required theme or mandatory items to use, so you can make it look however you want. You’ll even be able to give the theme a new name to match the style you’ve created.

Once you’re done with this first roommate request, you’ll be able to repeat these same steps with any villager you’ve already designed a vacation home for. Simply visit them and ask if they are interested in getting a roommate, and you’ll be able to pick someone for them out of the same options above.

In case you’re wondering, you won’t be able to make two villagers live together on your home island. If you were hoping for the ability to do that, we’re afraid to tell you that currently this feature is limited to the Happy Home Paradise DLC vacation homes.
