How to Scan in NEO: The World Ends With You

Scanning is an ability that reveals a number of things in the environment that can be interacted with. Scanning will allow you to see special items, start battles with enemies called Noise, and even read people’s thoughts.

Simply press R1 on PlayStation or R on Switch to scan whenever you are outside of combat. You’ll know that you’re doing it right when the screen darkens and thought bubbles appear over people’s heads. Floating red symbols will also appear, and those are Noise.

Walking underneath a Noise symbol when scanning will cause the symbol to follow you. Once it touches you, a battle will start soon after.

Scanning is useful when you can’t seem to find what you’re looking for as well. Some missions involve reading thoughts. When a thought bubble above a person’s head is red, it means they have vital information.

Even if the thoughts aren’t exactly tied to missions, you can always check to see what everyone around you is thinking just for fun if you choose to do so.

That’s everything you need to know about how to scan in NEO: The World Ends With You. Be sure to check out our guide wiki for more tips, tricks, and general info on the game.
