Cyberpunk 2077: All Weapon Types & How They Work (Smart, Tech, Power, Melee)

Cyberpunk 2077’s weapons are divided into four distinct types; Smart, Tech, Power and Melee. The problem is, sometimes it can be a bit tricky to know exactly what weapon types you should be using when, or even what the difference is. In this guide, we’ll run you through each of the four Cyberpunk 2077 weapon types, how they work, and how to make the most of them.

All Weapon Types in Cyberpunk 2077

Smart Weapons

Smart weapons fire projectiles that home in on the targeted enemy. To use Smart weapons’ homing systems you will need the Smart link hands cyberware. This can be purchased for free after completing ‘The Gig’ quest and visiting the Ripperdoc.

These weapons are perfect for enemies hiding behind cover or moving around a room quickly, as there’s no escape from the homing rounds.

Tech Weapons – All Cyberpunk 2077 Weapon Types

Tech weapons fire projectiles that can penetrate walls and other cover that enemies may be hiding behind. These don’t require you to have any cyberware installed, all you need to do is charge them up by holding the ‘fire’ trigger or command input.

By charging Tech weapons, you can make the shot deal even more damage. Proficiency with these weapons can be dramatically increased by increasing your ‘Engineering’ skill.

Power Weapons

Power weapons fire projectiles that can bounce and ricochet off surfaces. Initially, the chance of projectiles ricocheting is 5% but this can be increased by equipping the Ballistic Coprocessor cyberware for your hands.

The Trajectory Generator mod can also show you bullet trajectory after a ricochet, too, meaning you’ll be able to line up your shots to hit enemies off walls.

Melee Weapons – All Cyberpunk 2077 Weapon Types

Finally you’ve got melee weapons. This weapon type covers anything that doesn’t fire a bullet. They’re often broken down into Blades and Blunt weapons, with Mantis Blades and Gorilla Arms being an example of each of these.

You can increase your effectiveness with melee weapons by developing your ‘Body’ attribute.

That’s everything you need to know on all weapon types in Cyberpunk 2077. Our Cyberpunk 2077 guide wiki has plenty more tips and tricks, or you can check out more of our coverage on the game below.
