Developer miHoYo’s latest free-to-play action-RPG has 24 playable characters to collect and play with, but customizing their design is somewhat limited. Here’s how to change appearance in Genshin Impact — at least, what little you’re able to actually do.
How to Change Appearance in Genshin Impact
As alluded to above, though there are a bunch of cool-looking characters in Genshin Impact, what you see is essentially what you’re stuck with. There’s no true character customization that allows you to change their appearance.
The closest thing you get to character customization is the “Dressing Room,” which disappointingly only allows you to change your Glider design, as pictured above. There are currently three different “Wings” to collect: First Flight, Companionship, and Descension.
Other than that, the only choice you have in terms of character appearance is choosing the gender of your adventurer at the very start of the game.
We haven’t heard anything to suggest that miHoYo plans to introduce character customization to Genshin Impact, but given that it’s a live-service game there’s always that possibility.
That being said, unlocking characters via the gacha Wish mechanic is a big part of the game’s monetization system, and you’d have to imagine that offering the option to change their appearance might decrease player’s interest in unlocking new characters. In turn, that would mean less money spent on microtransactions, which obviously wouldn’t be appealing to miHoYo.
