Can You Catch Birds in Animal Crossing New Horizons?

To give all of you a straight-up answer to this question, no, there is, unfortunately, no way to catch birds right now on your island in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Since you only have access to a fishing rod and a bug net, you can only catch… you know, fish and bugs.

You will see birds around the island sometimes, but if you were to get close to it or try to hit it with your net, it’ll fly away immediately before you get close.

As you can see in the image below, you’ll occasionally see a yellow bird perched atop your bulletin board that sits to the left of the town hall/resident services building.

Like I mentioned previously, you can try to slowly approach it with your bug net, but it will fly away before you catch it.

Why Is the Yellow Bird There?

If you’re wondering why that yellow bird is there in the first place, there’s actually a purpose for that. The bird only shows up if you have an unread post on your bulletin board. Tom Nook, Timmy and Tommy, and friends that visit your island can make posts on it and the bird will show up to let you know that you have missed messages.
