How to Change Characters in Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE Encore

Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE Encore features a cast of completely new and original characters, but each of them is linked to a character from Fire Emblem, which gives them the power they need to fight against the monsters you come across in dungeons. You can’t actually change which Fire Emblem character is assigned to who, but you can change up your party composition whenever you want to.

The easiest way to do this is by bringing up the menu with the Y button, choosing the Casting option, choosing the party member you want to replace, then choosing the member you want to replace them with. You can only have a maximum of three characters in your party at any time, so you’ll want to swap them out periodically to spread out the experience gains.

Even characters who aren’t currently in the active lineup will still receive experience points, but only a fraction of what the main party gets. This ensures that they can still level up, but it’s recommended that you put them in the main lineup if you want them to grow faster.

Finally, even when in battle, you can also swap in characters during your turn. This can be useful if a party member is low on health, or if you need another party member to step in to exploit an enemy’s weakness.

To recap, here’s how to change characters in Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE Encore:

  1. Bring up the menu with the Y button.

  2. Choose the Casting option.

  3. Select the party member you want to replace, then select the other member you want to bring into the main lineup.
