Crossing America, reconnecting waystations and delivering cargo along the way, is rarely smooth sailing. In addition to BTs thwarting your progress, there are also MULE cargo thieves to deal with. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to deal with them, including some very clever stealth-focused gadgets. Here’s how to use decoy cargo in Death Stranding.
The detection beacons that MULEs use to locate valuable cargo means they’re extremely difficult to evade. Even when there’s plenty of distance between you and any visibly patrolling MULE, they can find you quite easily if you’re pinged.
But they aren’t pinging you, of course, they are pinging our cargo. This is where the decoy cargo comes in. It’s a faux cargo that acts as a distraction target and tricks the MULEs into pursuing the wrong target. And when they do pick up that cargo, they’ll be in for a nasty surprise.
How to Use Decoy Cargo in Death Stranding
Using the decoy cargo is a simple as fabricating it, equipping it, and leaving it somewhere the MULEs are likely to find it.
Time needed: 1 minute
Using Decoy Cargo in Death Stranding
- Press right on the d-pad to open your equipment menu
- Select the decoy cargo
- Throw it somewhere a MULE will find it
It’s best used either inside a MULE base just before you’re about to steal cargo and make a hasty retreat, or while they are already in hot pursuit of you and you need something to slow them down.
Even if you place a decoy cargo quite obviously in front of a pursuing MULE, they will stop and open it. The explosion will incapacitate them.
