Age of Wonders’ transition from fantasy to sci-fi is proving a real hit with critics and fans. Planetfall feels like a proper new chapter in the longstanding series, which means there’s plenty of new strategies, resources, and game mechanics for veterans and newcomers alike to learn. This guide will run you through what sectors are and how to annex them to grow your power in Age of Wonders Planetfall.
What Sectors Are & Why You Need to Annex Them
In Planetfall, each of game’s different procedurally generated worlds is broken down into different sectors. Each sector has two different biomes, which can be exploited for production, food, research, and energy.
As you probably deduced already, exploiting new sectors for agricultural, industrial, and military gains will allow you to grow your colonies. Needless to say, annexing is a critical part of the Planetfall gameplay loop.
How to Annex a Sector in Age of Wonders Planetfall
You’ll only be able to annex a new sector once you have cleared it of enemies, so any opposing armies obviously need to be destroyed. The central hex of the sector will glow with a yellow marker once it’s available for annexing.
Entering the hex will bring up a multitude of different options, which includes the ability to annex. Annexing will add the new territory to your colony and you’ll then be able to build and mine the area for resources.
It goes without saying that you’ll want to pay close attention to how much of a food and water resource drain this new sector will have. If the sector has a poor supply of those necessary resources, you’ll have to make sure you have it elsewhere in abundance in order to adequately support your growing territory.
Exploiting an Annexed Sector
With your new sector now incorporated into your colony, you can begin to mine or ‘exploit’ it for resources, such as energy, agriculture, research, etc. Each sector has its own different pool of resources according to its features and attributes.
To exploit, examine the sector by clicking on it and choose the ‘production’ option. You’ll then bring up a list of different exploitation types which you can select by clicking ‘produce.’
Note that there’s a cap on the number of sectors you can exploit, so only annex the ones that have resources you require.
That should be everything you need to know about how to annex a sector in Age of Wonders Planetfall. For more useful tips and guides on the game, be sure to search Twinfinite.
