Shakedown: Hawaii
We like to describe Shakedown: Hawaii as a mix of Grand Theft Auto but with the aesthetics of Hotline Miami. It’s a top-down old-school action game taking place on the beautiful island of Hawaii. But this ain’t no tropical vacation, this is all about literally pummeling the competition to a pulp as you attempt to grow your corporate empire and take over the business world on the island.
You’ll be partaking in sidequests that involve shaking down small convenience stores for cash by promising to “protect” their store from other criminals like yourself. You can also traverse around the city by way of foot travel, cars, and boats.
Take over the city and just live out your best life in Shakedown: Hawaii when it releases for the PS4 on May 7.
Puyo Puyo Champions
Puyo Puyo Champions takes the classic competitive puzzle game and gives us a simple experience that has loads of depth, where you can battle others online for the crown, dropping slimes and taking names.
It’s not a battle royale game but there’s tons of history to be found here with a cast of characters that have been part of the series throughout the past 25 years.
You can also play locally with a buddy by your side, but try not to embarrass them too much… you don’t wanna become that guy who never lets anyone else win.
Life is Strange 2 – Episode 3
The emotional journey of Sean and Daniel Diaz continue on in the newest episode of Life is Strange 2. After their father passes away in a terrible superpower-related accident in their hometown outside of Seattle, the two brothers make a run for it across the country, planning on eventually making it to Mexico.
In episode three, we’re pretty sure that these two guys will be getting into even more trouble as the duo finds themselves with a new job, that while it may give them some extra cash, deals with some illegal substances that might lead them into an ever deeper hole with the police.
Rage 2
Rage 2 is coming way this month courtesy of Bethesda and plans to retain what the post-apocalyptic series is known for –crazy guns, insane abilities, and all kinds of vehicles used to explore the wasteland.
Taking inspiration from films such as Mad Max, Rage 2 is just one big bloody open playground with tons to do and see. If you like flashy explosions, exhilarating combat, and wrecking everything in sight, then Rage 2 is a great choice to pick up for the PS4 when it releases on May 14.
Sniper Elite V2 Remastered
While most shooters focus and rely on huge bombastic setpieces and charging into fights with guns blazing, Sniper Elite V2 Remastered instead concentrates more on stealth and careful planning.
Scope out the area and mark your target, stalk them for a little bit to see their paths, ready your aim, and fire. Sniper Elite throws you in the midst of a war and it’s up to you to take down your foes in a silent and efficient manner.
Bubsy: Paws on Fire!
Bubsy: Paws on Fire is a 2D platformer coming to the PS4 later this month and deals with Bubsy trying to defeat a maniacal pig who is trying to capture all of the other animals in the universe to then trap them in some sort of terrible zoo.
Bubsy then teams up with his archenemies, working together for the greater good to stop the pig once and for all.
There are over 100 levels full of platforming action, a couple of bosses sprinkled in, and with four playable characters, Bubsy will keep you entertained for at least a little bit of time.
Castlevania Anniversary Collection
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Konami, the company is releasing a huge pack of Castlevania games on the PS4 that include a whopping six titles from throughout the sidescrollers history. The collection may not include the best Castlevania game (Symphony of the Night) but there are still some great titles included here.
The six games that come with the anniversary collection are as follows: Castlevania, Castlevania II Simon’s Quest, Castlevania III Dracula’s Curse, Super Castlevania IV, Castlevania The Adventure, Castlevania II Belmont’s Revenge, Castlevania Bloodlines, and Kid Dracula.
I for one have yet to try out any of these titles, so I’m pumped to get my hands on this one later this month –May 16 to be exact.
Everybody’s Golf VR
Everybody’s Golf is a new entry that is part of the long-running golfing franchise under PlayStation’s belt. It’s easy and simple to learn the basics of golf, but if you’re an experienced player, there’s a lot of depth to be found here.
You can customize your character to look just like yourself in real life and head online to face off with other players thanks to some new gameplay modes. The game is already out on PS4, but starting this month, you’ll be able to check out the game once again, but this time with the PlayStation VR headset.
Instead of going out to the golf course in real life, you can just pop on the VR helmet and feel as if you’re really playing golf with your friends.
Blood & Truth
Blood and Truth is an upcoming PlayStation VR title that came out of the development of London Heist, a game that was first showed off in the early days of VR.
It’s meant to be a cinematic experience that feels like you’re playing a high-octane movie blockbuster with gunplay, driving scenes, and huge stunts like repelling off of walls and jumping out of a helicopter.
Basically, if you want a game that makes you feel like you’re Tom Cruise living out his Mission Impossible life, then here you go.
Team Sonic Racing
Team Sonic Racing brings your favorite Sonic the Hedgehog universe together for some fast-paced competitive kart racing. Play as Shadow the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, your favorite girl with a hammer (Amy Rose), and many many more.
Featuring racing tracks and a rad remixed soundtrack that take inspiration from older Sonic games, this is the perfect game for those Sonic fans out there looking for a solid kart racer. This brings the best of the best from the Sonic universe and you’ll be crazy to miss out on this one.
Crystal Crisis
Crystal Crisis may seem like a fighting game from the get-go, but there’s a puzzle element to the fights as you battle against famous Nicalis characters from Cave Story, Binding of Issac and a couple of others.
The quicker that you match the different-colored blocks, the faster your opponent get damaged by your special attacks.
There are online multiplayer modes as well as local, a stage and a theme song for each fighter, and a visual aesthetic that brings out the cuteness of all of these video game characters.
Trover Saves the Universe
If you haven’t heard of Justin Roiland, he’s one of the co-creators and voice actors behind Rick and Morty, a television series that airs on Adult Swim. His new game, Trover Saves the Universe, is labeled as a comedy-adventure game with tons of inspiration from his t.v. show.
After getting your dogs kidnapped by a maniacal beaked villain named Glorkon, you have to team up with Trover to rescue them, but unfortunately, Trover’s not super excited to save the universe, but he still does it unwillingly –for the dogs, you know?
This adventure game will be playable via PS VR and without the headset once it launches towards the end of this month.
