The world in Red Dead Redemption 2 is thriving with all sorts of wildlife, from deer to wolves, that can act as a source of food or pelts. Whenever you kill them, you can skin their pelt by approaching their body and pressing the corresponding button. You will then get meat depending on which animal you kill along with their pelt.

Can You Sell Animals in Red Dead Redemption 2?

If you’ve just dropped a big ol’ deer while you’re out in the wild and wanted to sell it, well, bad news. Unfortunately, you can’t sell the animal itself. Instead, you can only sell the animal’s pelt and any specific, unique parts from it instead.

How to Sell Animal Pelts

If you want to sell your animals, just head on over to the nearest butchers or Trapper. They’ll take the pelt or meat off your hands for a bit of money, assuming you won’t need it.

Generally, you can sell all of the pelts without having to worry about the “best” one to sell. However, you can come across perfect pelts which you can use for crafting instead of selling. If you do get a legendary animal pelt, these can only be sold to Trappers in the game.

Are They Used for Crafting?

Whenever you receive an animal pelt in Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll probably notice some star icons in your inventory. When it has three stars, that means you basically have a perfect pelt.

Take these rare pelts over to the butcher at camp, and he’ll fashion you some fancy new clothes or upgrade your satchel. These clothes are just cosmetics and don’t really add anything aside from making you look snazzy.

While cosmetics are definitely nice, you will want to focus first on improving your satchel in Red Dead Redemption 2. You can take your perfect pelts over to Pearson and he’ll start working on improving your inventory. However, before Pearson can start crafting upgrades for you, you’ll need to purchase the leather working tools from the camp ledger first.

How to Get Perfect Pelts

Some players might want to update their wardrobe with more clothes, so they’ll definitely want to be on the lookout for perfect pelts in Red Dead Redemption 2. While coming across good pelts are sporadic and are pretty random, there are a few things you can do to increase your chances of getting one.

When hunting, make sure to use an arrow instead of a gun when chasing down animals. Moreover, you can also craft special arrows that reduce animal pelt damage, so make sure to stock up on these if you’re planning on going hunting.

That’s pretty much everything you need to know about selling animals in Red Dead Redemption 2. If you need more help on your adventure, be sure to drop by our nifty Red Dead Redemption 2 wiki.
