Every Retro Game Coming to Current Generation Platforms in October 2018

the world ends with you, best nintendo switch games

There really aren’t too many retro games hitting modern systems this month, but with this particular selection, I don’t think that’s a problem at all. There are several lengthy RPGs being rereleased this month that will easily keep you occupied until November and beyond.

Switch owners have quite a lot to look forward to in October. In fact, the only retro game not releasing on the Switch is instead coming to the 3DS.

Finally, the long-awaited Dark Souls Remastered is coming to the Switch on Oct. 12. The Switch version unfortunately received a delay that pushed it behind the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions, but it won’t be long now until players can prepare to die on the go.

Another hotly-anticipated retro game heading to Switch is Square Enix’s The World Ends With You. The DS exclusive was heavily praised during its original release, and it’s good to see that more fans will finally be able to give this unique, Shibuya-based JRPG a try.

Not only will the game feature updated visuals and new content, but also a brand new control scheme. Seeing as the game has only previously been released on devices with a touch screen, it’ll be interesting to see how this remake is adapted to make use of the Switch’s joy-con controllers.

The one non-Switch retro game releasing in October is Luigi’s Mansion for 3DS. The GameCube original was intended to feature stereoscopic 3D, as Nintendo were experimenting with that technology all the way back then. While this never came to pass back in 2001, we can finally get a glimpse of the original scope of the launch title with the 3DS’ restored 3D feature.

As far as non-Nintendo consoles go, it’s pretty slim pickings for the month of October.

The two games of note for PS4 are Disgaea 1 Complete, a tactical RPG from the PS2 days, and Mark of the Ninja Remastered, a highly-regarded side-scrolling action game that originally released in 2012 for Xbox 360 and PC.

Xbox One owners are also treated to Mark of the Ninja Remastered and also have one more game to look forward to: Lego Harry Potter Collection. Surprisingly, this collection of the previous-generation Lego Harry Potter games was exclusively released on PS4 back in 2016, but now it is finally heading over to Xbox One and Switch on Oct. 30.
