When you first begin your journey in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, you’ll get to choose between playing in Guided or Exploration Mode. Guided Mode is exactly like previous Assassin’s Creed games. You’ll get a new quest, and the game will give you a quest marker or waypoint you can track easily. However, with Exploration Mode, you’ll need to figure out some locations for yourself. For instance, an NPC will let you know that your target is to the north of a certain forest. You’ll then need to check your map, find the forest, and head north of there. The idea here is to get the player to explore the world a little more, so that you don’t feel like you’re just following waypoints.

Since the game always gives you enough clues to figure out where you’re supposed to go, it becomes a bit of a hassle to waste extra time looking for that location on the map, then heading there. Since the game will prompt you whenever you’re near your target anyway, and Ikaros can pinpoint the location for you, you might as well just stick with Guided Mode.
