Should You Play in Guided or Exploration Mode in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey?

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the latest entry in Ubisoft’s popular and long-running franchise, and continuing off the trend set by Origins, Odyssey is implementing more RPG elements into the experience. In addition to that, Ubisoft has also introduced two different modes of play: Guided and Exploration. Guided is more similar to the traditional styles of past Assassin’s Creed games, where you’ll simply get quest markers whenever you accept a new mission. However, Exploration mode is a little different. If you’re wondering which one you should pick, we’re here to break down the differences for you between.

What the Difference Is

As previously mentioned, Guided mode is pretty straightforward and typical of an open world game. Every quest that you get in the game while playing on this mode is simply shown by a waypoint on your screen you need to head towards. No need to press NPCs for more information, the game will do a lot of this heavy lifting for you. It’s great, as it allows you to focus on the stealthy action the series is renowned for.

For Exploration, you’ll need to put in more work if you want to figure out where your quest objective is. Instead of giving you a quest marker, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey requires you to probe the quest-giving NPC for more information about your target when playing in this mode.

After getting the info you need, you’ll need to use it to figure out where you need to go. The hints are rather descriptive, though, and you can usually figure out your target location by studying the map and following the directions.

How to Change Between Expedition and Guided in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

If you ever run into any trouble, or if you don’t want to deal with Exploration mode anymore, you can simply go into the options menu and change your game mode back to Guided.

Once you do that, you’ll get quest markers much more readily in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and you can go about completing your quests much more quickly and efficiently.

And that’s all you need to know about the Guided and Exploration modes in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
