In the latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine, Famitsu, it seems that Bandai Namco has announced a brand-new game set in the Digimon universe titled Digimon Survive (via Siliconera). Digimon Survive is a survival strategy RPG with both 2D and 3D elements as well as cutscenes that are meant to be on par with the Digimon anime. It’s scheduled to be released sometime in 2019 for the Nintendo Switch and PS4.
Digimon Survive will have conversations that will allow you to choose your own path, affecting the storyline or even digi-evolutions in the middle of battle. These conversations will be shown with 2D illustrations but will have graphics to look just like a scene from the Digimon anime series.
As for the battle system, it’s apparently grid-based – being a strategy game – and you will be moving your team of monsters around a field, strategizing in order to achieve victory in battles.
The last Digimon RPG to release was Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory for the PS4 and PS Vita earlier this year and was a turn-based RPG. Digimon Survive being a survival/adventure game, it’s shaping up to be something completely different from the past few titles that Bandai Namco has put out recently in the Digimon universe.
Digimon Survive releases in 2019 in Japan for PS4 and Switch.
